Job summary

Toronto Hydro is seeking a Building System Technician to perform operation, maintenance and troubleshooting across building systems, including electrical, mechanical, plumbing and life safety. The role involves hands-on work, inspecting and repairing equipment and ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

You will work on 1 vacancy, with responsibilities ranging from reporting and lead-hand duties to supporting capital projects and life-safety system maintenance.

Qualifications

• Red Seal certification or a two-year college diploma with relevant practical experience.
• Valid Class G Ontario Driver’s License or higher in good standing.
• Physically able to perform the essential duties in all weather conditions.
• Knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and applicable legislation.
• Proficient in PC Windows environment and standard software.
• Safety guidelines must be followed.
• Customer service, trust and professionalism in interactions.
• Leadership to inform and motivate colleagues.

Job description

Expected Salary Range: $43.95 - $56.08 Hourly

The salary range shown above reflects the expected compensation for this position. The final salary offered will be determined based on a holistic assessment of the candidate’s experience, education, training, and alignment with the role’s requirements. For positions covered by a collective agreement, placement within the range will follow the applicable step or classification.

The Building System Technician is responsible for operation, maintenance and troubleshooting on System buildings and equipment. This role involves hands-on work across a variety of building systems, including electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and life safety systems. The incumbent will inspect, maintain, repair equipment, and ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.

This posting is to fill 1 position, which is an existing vacancy. Toronto Hydro reserves the right, in alignment with the applicable collective agreement, to finalize the number of positions filled.

Key Responsibilities

• Checks equipment, layout work and makes reports and recommendation, acting in a lead hand function
• Performs general maintenance of buildings and building systems.
• Participates in the installation, servicing, repair and operation of electrical and mechanical equipment and systems, including AV systems.
• Maintains building plumbing and drain systems
• Assists trade and service personnel to maintain various building systems
• Distributes, follows up, checks work, answers inquiries and gives guidance as required
• Maintains building and yard electrical equipment
• Maintains and repairs office furniture, equipment and materials
• Conducts and or directs work in a manner that is sensitive to customer and public needs
• Supports Capital Project work
• Assists with the maintenance of various Life Safety Systems throughout the facilities
• Maintains stock of building supplies, monitors equipment and maintains records
• Operates a vehicle requiring a class G licence and associated equipment related to the position

Requirements

• A valid Red Seal certification with a high school diploma or a two (2) year college diploma with relevant demonstrated practical experience
• Valid Class G Ontario Driver’s License or higher in good standing
• Physically able to perform the essential duties in all weather conditions
• Knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and any other applicable legislation
• Demonstrated proficiency in a PC Windows environment and associated desktop software applications
