About the Position
About the position…Reporting to the Chief Building Official, the Building Services Technician is responsible for reviewing and processing construction permits, examining plans (drawings) and assisting with field inspections
Duties & Responsibilities
The duties listed are not meant to provide a description of each and every job performed but only those which represent the core functions of the job.
Verify application submissions for completeness in accordance with the provisions of the City’s Building By-law and the Ontario Building Code.
Assign the appropriate workflow based on the completeness of submission and notify the applicants of non-conformities within the legislated timeframes.
Review application submissions for compliance with the list of applicable law as defined in the Ontario Building . Conservation, MTO etc.
Review and examine building permit application submissions related to House category, to determine compliance with the technical requirements of the Building Code, within the prescribed timeframes.
Calculate and confirm the appropriate fees, charges and deposits which are applicable to the permit applications.
Expedite building permit applications by monitoring workflow in anticipation of any unforeseen delays in the issuance process.
Act as point of contact to the public and stakeholders by communicating and explaining the technical permit application submission requirements.
Assist applicants and reply to inquiries at the counter, as principal department contact with the public concerning permit application submissions and review status.
Verify that proposed building permit applications are in compliance with Zoning By-laws, Sign By-laws and other Municipal By-laws.
What you need to Succeed...
Two (2) year College Diploma in Engineering or Architecture; or the equivalent in post-secondary education.
Two (2) years’ experience in building construction or design field or related municipal experience.
Must possess the provincial qualifications specified in the Ontario Building Code in the category of House, Plumbing-House and HVAC-House, or be eligible to participate in, and successfully complete, the OBOA internship program.
Expertise in a variety of computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite and database management software.
Strong organizational and analytical skills including the ability to multi-task.
Possess a valid Class “G” Ontario Driver’s License.
Salary and Benefit Information
The hourly wage range for this full-time, unionized position is $35.01 – $36.83 (2025 rates) OMERS Pension is available
