City of Burnaby is seeking a Building Service Worker to perform janitorial and custodial tasks in a municipal facility. The role requires cleaning, basic maintenance, and assisting the public during shifts, with duties including floor care, washroom replenishment, and event setup.
The position is regular full time in the Facilities Management division, with a 40-hour workweek and a schedule from Sunday to Thursday, 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM.

This position works in the Facilities Management division. This is manual work of limited complexity and responsibility in performing janitorial and custodial tasks on an assigned shift in and around a municipal facility. A Building Service Worker sweeps, washes, waxes, polishes and vacuums floors, washes hand basins, sinks, toilets, and tile work and replenishes supplies in washrooms, cleans windows, doors, glass partitions, and painted surfaces, sweeps sidewalks, clears snow and picks up refuse, performs minor repair and servicing on building, equipment and facilities as required. In addition, a Building Service Worker patrols building and grounds to ensure security, answers inquiries and gives out routine information and assistance to the public when required, sets up tables and chairs and other furniture for scheduled events or activities in the facility and removes on completion. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include up to high school graduation, preferably supplemented by some experience in janitorial work and minor maintenance of building and equipment, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Sound knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in janitorial work. Working knowledge of the general regulations and procedures governing facility operations and some knowledge of the routine building maintenance and minor repair tasks. Ability to perform light manual work; understand and follow simple oral or written instructions, deal courteously and effectively with the public, and perform simple repair and maintenance tasks on building and equipment used. Skill in the operation of tools and equipment used in the work. A valid Driver's License for the Province of B.C. is required. Please note that a Police Information Check may be required for this position.
Appointments to regular full time, temporary full time, regular part time and temporary part time positions shall be determined by seniority as defined by the greatest length of service in the specific posted job. These appointments shall be subject to the successful passing of the skill test(s) applicable to the classification, that they are not currently subject to a performance management plan, and have no discipline or recorded safety infractions in the previous eighteen (18) months. First consideration will be given to internal applicants (Clause 6 Application) and then open to external applicants.
