Building Sciences Consultant (Engineer-in-Training)

Job Description

WSP is currently seeking a Building Sciences Consultant (Engineer-in-Training) to join our Southwestern Ontario group, located at our Hamilton office. Reporting to the Southwestern Ontario Director of Building Sciences, this position will be responsible for conducting site reviews and working alongside our Junior and Intermediate Engineers on projects.

What you can expect to do here:

  1. Apply engineering knowledge to tasks on building science & audit projects
  2. Assist engineers with building evaluations & site reports
  3. Perform property condition assessments reports, including site work and report preparation
  4. Creation of capital plans setting out projected building expenditure
  5. Assist the preparation of building investigation reports, and construction documents
  6. Conduct building investigations and field reviews to determine design and repair options
  7. Perform non-invasive investigations, which may include ladder work, working at heights, working in confined spaces, and making field measurements
  8. Perform construction site visits, documenting observations and field-testing results
  9. Make contributions to company knowledge management and practice systems

What you’ll bring to WSP:

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in the building science (or appropriate engineering field) industry
  • College Diploma in Engineering or engineering degree in Civil Engineering, Building Science, Architectural Science or a construction-related discipline
  • Registered or eligible for registration with PEO
  • Valid driver's license. Access to a vehicle is an asset
  • Knowledge of building materials, construction processes, structures and mechanical and electrical systems is desirable
  • Ability to gather and diagnose information, interpret data and drawings
  • Ability to demonstrate self-organization
  • Excellent communicator, with strong verbal and written skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel are considered essential
  • Experience in Consulting Engineering, conducting building assessments or a related field is an asset
