Pinchin is seeking staff with knowledge of architectural and/or engineering fundamentals to join our Building Science team in one of our GTA offices (Mississauga, Toronto).
The successful candidate should have sound knowledge and understanding of building systems, including architectural features such as structure, building enclosures, mechanical and electrical systems, roofing systems, interior elements, and site features.
A Day in the life of a Building Science Technologist at Pinchin :
- Conduct Building and Property Condition Assessments for due diligence and capital planning in accordance with ASTM standards, UniFormat, and best construction practices at various client sites.
- Perform Capital planning Building Condition Assessments.
- Review and complete assessments of existing buildings and structures, such as roof assemblies, exterior cladding, balconies, fenestrations, and parking garages to determine design and remedial options.
- Conduct invasive building assessments and testing (e.g., roof cut tests, water/leak tests).
- Carry out quantity take-offs and measurements during projects.
- Develop designs and specifications for restoration projects.
- Perform construction reviews to ensure quality standards and design requirements are met.
- Prepare written reports summarizing field data, interpretations, and detailed AutoCAD drawings.
- Coordinate financial aspects of projects.
- Maintain QA/QC and health & safety protocols.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
What you bring to the Pinchin team :
- Architectural Technician, Civil Engineering Technologist, Construction Technician, Science diploma, or B.A./B.Sc. in Architecture or Building Science.
- Knowledge of Building Condition Assessments per ASTM E 2018-15.
- Familiarity with UniFormat and asset management software is an asset.
- Experience with building construction or maintenance preferred.
- Knowledge of HVAC systems and building envelopes preferred.
- Knowledge of the Ontario Building Code is required.
- Ability to read technical specifications, drawings, and reports.
- Experience in technical report writing is preferred.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD is preferred.
- Must be able to safely transport and carry tools and PPE, including a 20-foot ladder.
- Availability to travel with a valid driver’s license, insurance, and personal vehicle (expenses reimbursed).
