Job description

SAIT’s Athletic and Recreation department is a vital part of the SAIT experience, supporting Trojans players in various sports and promoting active, healthy lifestyles for students, staff, alumni, and the public.

The Opportunity

SAIT's Athletics and Recreation department is hiring part-time hourly staff as Building Patrol Officers (Wellness Centre Assistants). These officers contribute to student engagement and support our varsity and intramural sports programs. The Wellness Centre includes Fitness & Studios, a Temporary Gymnasium, Cohos Commons Soccer Pitch, Physical Training amenities, and a new ESports studio.

The Role

  • Key responsibilities include:

Customer Service (Front of House)
  • Reception and communication at the Wellness desk
  • Campus gatekeeping, audio support, equipment control
  • Providing excellent customer service to all Wellness Centre visitors
  • Handling reception duties including phone and online inquiries
  • Setting up rooms for bookings, which may involve lifting or moving light furniture
  • Assisting members and answering questions
  • Managing laundry, lockers, and change rooms as needed
  • Inventory control for sports programs and activities
  • Equipment setup, takedown, and sign-out
  • Maintaining a professional appearance and communication style
  • Resolving conflicts and escalating issues when necessary
  • Processing Banner access, memberships, and reporting

Facility Stewardship (Campus Center)
  • Cleaning and maintaining exercise equipment
  • Stocking and sanitizing Fitness Studio and Lifting Center
  • Managing access controls and membership validation
  • Securing the facility by opening and locking doors
  • Monitoring and servicing the ESports studio as required

Compliance (Programming, Sport Amenities, Finance)
  • Handling financial transactions and petty cash
  • Processing registrations and promotions
  • Managing equipment rentals, sign-outs, and inventory
  • Ensuring health, safety, and environmental standards
  • Following Respect in the Workplace certification
  • Collaborating with a diverse team of students and staff
  • Supporting activity programs including Drop-in and Free Play
Qualifications & Experience
  • Current SAIT students enrolled and returning are preferred
  • High school diploma required
  • Participation in sports is required
  • Customer service experience preferred
  • First Aid, CPR, and Respect in Sport certifications are preferred
