Job summary

Cadillac Fairview is seeking a building technician to maintain HVAC, electrical, and related systems across our properties. You will perform routine troubleshooting, repairs, and preventive maintenance to keep equipment in top condition and support a comfortable environment for clients.

The role requires strong communication, reliability, and a customer-service mindset, with the ability to work overtime and respond to emergencies.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Building technician certificate and/or instrumentation and control certificate preferred.
  • 4+ years in physical plant operations, HVAC, or related equipment in office/mixed-use environments.
  • Knowledge of electrical/mechanical systems and blueprint reading.

Responsibilities

  • Perform troubleshooting and repairs for HVAC, electrical, and general building systems.
  • Maintain and monitor central plant and Life Safety equipment; test fire protection devices and emergency power systems.
  • Respond to client concerns and provide cost-saving repair recommendations.
  • Clear roofs, patch and paint, repair doors, and secure site equipment as needed.
  • Log and report on mechanical systems daily, weekly, monthly, and annually.

Description

Role impact:

To maintain all building equipment at optimum performance levels and ensure the building is kept in top condition in order to meet the requirements and expectations of clients for a fully functioning facility.

What you will deliver:

  • Perform troubleshooting and repairs required for the maintenance and upkeep of equipment such as, but not limited to, replace belts and filters, lubrications, minor part replacement and trouble shooting of minor mechanical/electrical in adherence with local electrical fire and safety codes to maintain equipment in good working order and limit the opportunity for incurring major repair bills;
  • Secure CF property against loss due to theft, fire, liability claims and prosecutions resulting from operations by ensuring all health, safety and security procedures are adhered to and areas of concern are reported to the appropriate parties in a timely manner to limit exposure to liability and loss;
  • Monitor central plant including auxiliary and related equipment and water treatment by checking all major mechanical controls confirming they are in good working order to ensure a comfortable environment for clients;
  • Inspect all central equipment and Life Safety equipment, which includes testing of fire protection devices and auxiliary/emergency power systems on a regular basis and report any problems or unusual findings to supervisor to minimize damage and cost of repair to all building equipment. Test fuel systems as well;
  • Respond to clients’ concerns regarding HVAC, electrical, plumbing and general repair issues by solving problems or making recommendations as required to reduce repair costs and ensure a high level of customer service to clients;
  • General maintenance of all site mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems, such as but not limited to chillers, boilers, heat pumps, air conditioners, emergency generators, induction units, VAV systems;
  • General maintenance of facility including, clearing roofs, patching and painting drywall, repairing doors, anchoring items into concrete;
  • Report and log keeping of mechanical systems on a daily, weekly, monthly and annual basis as required;
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you need to succeed:

  • High School Diploma Required;
  • Building technician certificate and / or instrumentation and control certificate;
  • 5th or 4th Class Power Engineer License an asset;
  • Enrolled in BES 2/1, SMA or SMT (BOMA) an asset;
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in physical plant operations, HVAC and other related equipment preferably in an office building or mixed use environment;
  • Thorough knowledge of general maintenance procedures, current technology, electrical/mechanical systems and blueprint reading & comprehension;
  • Proven mechanical abilities.
  • A willingness to learn

Starting hourly rate for this job level may range from $22.93 to $30.57. The actual hourly rate offered will consider several factors including, but not limited to the role, experiences, skills & qualifications, location, market and internal considerations; with this context, CF reserves the right to pay above this range.
