Job summary

Dream Office REIT is seeking a Building Operator in Ottawa who is customer-focused, self-motivated and eager to learn. This fast-paced role requires proactive problem-solving and a commitment to safety and reliable facilities operations across HVAC, plumbing, and life safety systems.

You will perform preventive maintenance, handle tenant service calls, oversee appearance and safety of the property, operate building automation, coordinate with contractors, and maintain logs.

Qualifications

• Must be able to obtain and maintain Government of Canada Reliability Status clearance.
• Valid driver’s license is required.
• Own vehicle is preferred for daily movement between sections.
• 5+ years of experience in building operations.
• Experience in commercial/office/retail environments is preferred.
• Operator Class 5 Certificate completed/in progress.
• Knowledge of safety and fire codes and WHMIS procedures.
• Proactive in identifying problems and solutions.
• Team player but able to work independently.
• Strong computer and communications skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, mechanical and life safety systems and facilities.
• Complete tenant service calls such as lighting etc. in a professional manner.
• Oversee the appearance and safety of the property.
• Operate Building Automation and Security systems.
• Troubleshoot technical issues and provide solutions.
• Oversee contractors and ensure adherence to building guidelines.
• Communicate with Operations Supervisor/Property Management on issues.
• Maintain maintenance and daily logs of equipment.
• Contact suppliers, obtain quotes, and order materials/supplies.
• Other duties as assigned.

What will you do?

• Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, mechanical and life safety systems and facilities.
• Complete tenant service calls such as changing lights, heating/cooling calls etc. in a professional manner.
• Oversee the appearance and safety of the property.
• Operate Building Automation and Security computer systems.
• Troubleshoot technical issues and provide solutions/recommendations.
• Oversee contractors and ensure they abide by building guidelines.
• Communicate with Operations Supervisor/Property Management on building and tenant issues.
• Maintain maintenance and daily logs of equipment.
• Contact suppliers, obtain quotes, and order materials/supplies.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Physical requirements:

• Able to work in confined spaces.
• Bending, twisting, crouching, climbing and reaching.
• Jumping in your vehicle to respond to emergency calls in the development.
• Move and lift heavy equipment and supplies.
• A combination of walking, standing, and sitting. There won’t be too much sitting at all, so don’t worry about getting restless.

What type of experience and skills do you have?

• Must be able to obtain and maintain Government of Canada Reliability Status clearance.
• Valid driver’s license.
• You have your own vehicle – the Zibi Development is approximately 34 acres and movement between the different sections is required daily.
• 5+ years of experience in building operations.
• You’ve gained your experience in a commercial/office/retail environment.
• You have completed/are enrolled in your Operator Class 5 Certificate.
• You are familiar with safety and fire codes and WHMIS procedures.
• You are proactive in finding problems and solving them.
• You are a team player but can work on your own.
• Your computer and communications skills are above par.

This is a regular, full‑time position with a base salary range of $55,000‑$68,000. In addition to base salary, the role is eligible for a performance‑based bonus and a comprehensive benefits package, which includes paid vacation and personal days, flexible benefits, mental health resources, access to perks and discounts, professional development support, and team‑building and social events.

Compensation is determined based on several factors, including relevant experience, total years of experience, industry experience, education, and professional designations. We recognize that exceptional talent doesn’t always fit neatly into a bracket. Final compensation will be tailored to your specific experience, skills and the unique value you bring to the table. If your qualifications exceed the scope of this role, we may be open to adjusting the mandate – and the salary – to reflect that expertise.
