Employment Type: Permanent full-time, Bargaining Unit (1 Vacancy)

Work Hours: 35 hours/week Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm

Work Setting: Onsite at 841 Queen St E, Toronto, Ontario

Internal Rate: E7 - $43,717.60

External Rate: E7 - $42,843.24

Program Overview – Building Services, Housing & Homelessness Services

Building Services is responsible for preventative and emergency maintenance at WoodGreen owned, leased and managed properties, including janitorial and grounds keeping. The program is responsible for preparing residential suites for new occupants; supervising and carrying out upgrades to offices and properties; providing physical support to WoodGreen programs and services as well as ensuring all applicable codes, standards and policies are met and adhered to.

What You Will Do
  • Carries out preventive and corrective maintenance on all WoodGreen building structures, systems, equipment and furnishings as assigned. This includes, but is not limited to, mechanical equipment such as:
  • Mechanical and plumbing, HVAC, Electrical, Structural, Life Safety, Security.
  • Replacing filters, drywalling, painting.
  • Operating a variety of tools and equipment including multi-testers, amp probes, and power tools.
  • Operating and maintaining John Deere garden tractor.
  • Operating FAP and security systems.
  • Recommending repairs or physical changes to building systems for improved operation.
  • Assisting and working with outside contractors for smooth operation and in emergencies.
  • Carrying phone during regular duties and being able to respond to emergencies. On a rotating basis performs after hours on call duties.
  • Assisting with janitorial and groundskeeping duties as needed.
  • Assisting with moving/setting up of office and program equipment and furniture as needed.
  • Familiarity with WoodGreen emergency procedures and protocols.
  • Responsible for knowing, understanding and following WoodGreen Policies and Procedures.
  • Attending training as assigned for the purpose of upgrading skills.
  • Participating in regular supervisory sessions, Building Services training, and staff meetings.
  • Carrying out inspections on all building systems and equipment.
What You Bring to the Team
  • Computer literacy; able to use Maintenance Management programs and email.
  • Effective communication in English, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to follow directions, schedules, and checklists.
  • Competency in working with manuals.

  • Significant walking and standing for long periods.
  • Operation of motorized equipment.
  • Ability to work in a noisy and dirty environment with various distractions.
  • Ability to manage interrupted sleep when on call.

  • Wearing various protective equipment and safety shoes.
  • Ascending and descending ladders and performing work on rooftops.
