The Opportunity
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Building Operations, the Building Operator plays a key role in ensuring the efficient operation and ongoing maintenance of the Innovation Saskatchewan Research and Technology Park Saskatoon (R+T Park Saskatoon). This position is responsible for leading the daily operation and regulation of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), steam and hydronic heating, computerized building systems and other critical infrastructure.
The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience in managing advanced mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, with a proven ability to assess and troubleshoot a wide range of maintenance challenges . They must be self-motivated, safety-focused and dedicated to providing exceptional customer service to tenants.

Primary Responsibilities
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Leading the daily operation and maintenance of complex industrial, commercial and laboratory HVAC systems such as pneumatic and computerized controls, instrumentation and mechanical systems and electrical & plumbing components.
- Managing the operation of steam and hydronic heating and cooling systems, along with associated equipment.
- Scheduling routine, preventative maintenance activities such as motor, fan & pump inspections, filter changes and belt replacements.
- Monitoring and adjusting plant and building equipment with computerized building automation systems.
- Responding to service requests in a timely and professional manner.
- Building strong, professional relationships with tenants by providing knowledgeable, honest and high-quality service that reflects the values of the R+T Park.
- Assisting supervisors and asset management in identifying aging infrastructure, energy-saving solutions and conducting preventative maintenance work.
- Supervising the work of third-party contractors to ensure safety and quality standards.
- Managing inventory to ensure adequate parts and supplies are available for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities.
- Participating in corporate administrative procedures including but not limited to work orders and purchase orders.
- Issuing permits for specialized work and access, including hot work, confined space, roof access, lockout/tag out, red tag and area/equipment access.
- Operating specialty process utilities such as RO water, clean steam, clean air, nitrogen and Biokill system.
- Operating a variety of equipment including the forklift, Bobcat and man lift, when required.
- Performing a range of general maintenance duties and seasonal tasks including, but not limited to minor repairs, cleaning, equipment operation and snow removal.
- Other duties as assigned.
What We Want from You
- 5 or more years of experience in commercial building operations or as a physical plant operator.
- Building Systems Technician certification and valid TSASK Fourth Power Engineer and TSASK Refrigeration Engineer licenses.
- Extensive knowledge of building HVAC systems, steam and hot water boiler systems and general network infrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of workplace safety regulations and a commitment to maintaining a safe environment for tenants, colleagues and contractors through adherence to policies and best practices.
- Confidence in providing estimates for labour, materials, price and delivery to tenant companies and ability to stay on budget and timeline.
- Ability to methodically assess and resolve maintenance issues with clear judgement and composure in both routine and emergency situations.
- Effective communication, teamwork and time management skills.
- Experience operating general power tools.
- Basic understanding of Building Management Systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
