Job summary

The City of Penticton is seeking a permanent full-time Building Official (Level I, II, or III) based in Penticton, BC. You will manage building permits from application to occupancy, with duties including inspections, by-law enforcement, and coordination across departments.

Required education includes a Grade 12 plus Building Technology training or carpentry apprenticeship, BOABC Level 2/3 or In-Training eligibility, and a valid BC Class 5 license.

Qualifications

• Customer service and effective problem-solving across stakeholders.
• Ability to enforce regulations with sound judgement.
• Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications and related material.
• Knowledge of Building Code and safety regulations and by-laws.
• Ability to learn GIS and permit/property records systems.

Responsibilities

• Review permit applications for building compliance.
• Inspect buildings at various stages of completion.
• Coordinate applications through City departments for permit issuance.
• Review reports from designers/engineers.
• Determine compliance of existing buildings undergoing changes.
• Provide technical advice to property owners, contractors, and staff.
