Job summary

Integrated Staffing Limited in Charlottetown, PEI, is seeking an experienced Building Inspector Level II to review construction plans, issue permits, and perform inspections to ensure compliance with the National Building Code of Canada, bylaws, and regulations.

The role requires post-secondary education in construction or a related field, 5+ years of experience, and eligibility for Level 2 Building Official.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Investigate building code and bylaw violations and prepare related reports and documentation.
  • Provide technical guidance on building code requirements, alternative compliance measures, and permitting procedures.
  • Maintain accurate inspection and permit records and prepare technical reports.

Permanent Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island $72000–$85000/yr Corporate

We are seeking an experienced Building Inspector Level II on behalf of a client in the Charlottetown area to conduct construction plan reviews, issue building permits, and perform inspections related to building and development applications. The successful candidate will ensure construction complies with the National Building Code of Canada, applicable bylaws, and regulations, while providing guidance to applicants, contractors, design professionals, and the public.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review construction drawings and applications for compliance with building codes, bylaws, and regulations.
  • Conduct inspections of new construction, renovations, and rehabilitation projects.
  • Issue building permits, compliance orders, and stop work orders where required.
  • Investigate building code and bylaw violations and prepare related reports and documentation.
  • Provide technical guidance on building code requirements, alternative compliance measures, and permitting procedures.
  • Communicate with contractors, architects, engineers, property owners, applicants, government agencies, and the public.
  • Maintain accurate inspection and permit records and prepare technical reports.
  • Participate in planning and development meetings as required.
Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary education or formal training in construction, architecture, civil engineering, engineering technology, building science, construction technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in building construction, design, project management, or inspections.
  • 1–2 years of experience as a Building Official in a municipal environment.
  • Must be eligible for appointment as a Level 2 Building Official under PEI Building Codes Regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of building construction practices, materials, and systems.
  • Experience interpreting and applying the National Building Code of Canada and relevant bylaws.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and relevant technical/database software.
  • Valid PEI Driver’s License or equivalent and access to a vehicle.
  • Skilled construction trade certification or engineering technologist designation is considered an asset.
