Job summary

The Halifax Regional Centre for Education (HRCE) is seeking a Building Management Supervisor to lead safety systems, custodial staffing and maintenance coordination across a group of schools in HRCE. This role acts as the primary liaison between school staff and the maintenance team, ensuring facilities operate smoothly and safely.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years experience working in the operation and/or maintenance of facilities.
• Minimum three years experience supervising twenty-five plus employees in a maintenance or custodial environment.
• Technical certificate in a building operations/maintenance discipline from a recognized Community College, or equivalent experience.
• Experience working in a unionized environment.
• Valid Nova Scotia driver's license and clean driving record. Access to and ability to operate a reliable vehicle to travel between assigned schools.

Responsibilities

• Staff supervision and performance reviews for custodial/maintenance teams.

Job description

The Halifax Regional Centre for Education (HRCE) is the largest Centre for Education in Atlantic Canada with over 11,000 full-time, part-time and casual employees. Serving more than 60,000 students in 136 schools, our geographic region spans a 350 km radius.

The Building Management Supervisor is the key contact for Operations Services for a group of schools within the Halifax Regional Centre for Education (HRCE). Within the assigned schools, the Building Management Supervisor is responsible for building safety systems, custodial staffing, maintenance coordination, security procedures and is the primary liaison between school-based staff and the greater maintenance team.

Duties include staff supervision, performance reviews, assigning routine maintenance tasks, performing inspections, planning fire drills and other emergency drills, participating in facility meetings, regulatory sign off, and coordination with HRCE maintenance personnel and external service providers.

The Building Management Supervisor will be integral in the development of best work practices, and consistent application of quality assurance standards for the HRCE.

The Building Management Supervisor reports to the Manager, Property Services – Custodial, and must communicate regularly with School-based staff to ensure Operations Services responsibilities are met in support of public school programming.

Salary:

This is a PEG (Professional Employees Group) position classified on the Education Entities Non-Union Compensation Framework at Band 5 with a salary range between $56,451 - 70,564
