What can you expect?

The Handyperson provides support to the Building Maintenance department with respect to all building maintenance related needs within the Sunshine Village facilities.

Handypersons are focused on safety, efficiency, and being approachable and courteous. They conduct inspections, maintenance, and repair duties. Handypersons report to the Building Maintenance Supervisor, liaising frequently with operations, other maintenance departments, and contractors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist/respond to all building maintenance related issues or needs (sites included buildings and lifts at the resort and the transportation Hub in Banff) including inspections, working on disassembly, assembly, routine or annual maintenance.
  • Complete documentation such as daily checks/reports, assigned logs, maintenance logs.
  • Communicate any unusual operating conditions.
  • Report all incidents and deficiencies promptly and accurately to the appropriate departments/personnel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned from time to time.
Experience/Requirements
  • Skills in carpentry, painting, plumbing, drywalling, and general building maintenance.
  • Positive, friendly attitude.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage stress.
  • Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, nights, and extended hours.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions with appropriate gear.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Maintain professional conduct in uniform, online, and in social settings.
  • Support, train, and assist coworkers, including apprenticeships in trade.
  • Participate actively in meetings and training sessions.
  • Neat, alert, punctual, and dependable.
  • Ability to operate UTV, snowmobile, vehicle (with valid AB license), and power/hand tools.
  • Own basic tools relevant for building maintenance.
Additional Considerations
  • Must be of sound mind, exhibit good judgment, and report to work fit for duty.
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods, perform trunk rotations, lift, push, and pull up to 45 kg.
  • Ability to use specialty trade equipment.
  • Comfortable hiking and moving in remote alpine environments.
  • Ability to work at heights up to 5 meters using ladders/stairs.
  • Uniform pieces are provided; candidates may need to provide their own transportation and CSA-approved safety footwear.
  • Exposure to industrial chemicals such as solvents, oils, and greases.
  • This position can lead to an apprenticeship opportunity.
