Building Inspector Level I (Full Time) - City of Chilliwack

The City of Chilliwack is hiring a Building Inspector Level I to join the Development and Regulatory Enforcement Services Department. This role involves assisting management to ensure efficient building inspection operations, including plan checking and inspections for various building types within the city, following municipal policies, and safety practices.

Responsibilities

As part of the Building Division team, the inspector will primarily handle processing and issuing building permits and conducting inspections in accordance with the BC Building Code for buildings up to 600m² and 3 storeys, including:

• Group C – Single Family Residential Buildings
• Residential ancillary buildings
• Agricultural buildings

Specific duties include:

• Reviewing building designs, materials, and devices for compliance with bylaws, regulations, and codes.
• Processing, accepting, or rejecting applications.
• Ensuring compliance with the BC Building Code and related standards.

Qualifications

• Completed Grade 12.
• Qualified to Level 1 according to Provincial Regulations and the Building Officials’ Association of BC.
• Knowledge of the BC Building Code, especially Part 9 for single-family dwellings and ancillary buildings.
• Valid B.C. Driver's License.

Skills

• Ability to interpret plans, blueprints, and specifications.
• Strong report writing and communication skills.
• Enrolled in a Red Seal journeyman carpenter program or a Building Technology diploma (to be completed within 3 years).
• Minimum of 2 years related experience.
• Knowledge of building trades practices, methods, and materials.

Compensation

Level 1: $45.97, Level 2: $49.96, Level 3: $58.75 (2025 rates). The position closes on 2025-05-08 at 4:30 PM.
