Job description

North Bay is a diverse community that offers a perfect blend of opportunity and easy living. Servicing a regional catchment area of 112,000 people, this progressive city of 51,553 residents is nestled between Lake Nipissing and Trout Lake, and is conveniently located just three and a half hours from major Ontario centers such as Toronto and Ottawa.

Applications are invited for the position of Building Inspector within the Corporation of the City of North Bay’s Building Department. Under the direction of the Chief Building Official, carries out the statutory duties of Building Inspector I or II, and is responsible as assigned and appointed for the enforcement of the Building Code Act and Regulations and other By-laws in accordance with appointment By-laws as they relate to residential projects. Examines plans, obtains information for issuance of building permits, conducts inspections and maintains accurate records. Conducts investigations, issues Provincial offences Certificates and summons. Carries out duties of Municipal Law Enforcement Officer, Property Standards Officer, Provincial Offences Officer and other related duties as assigned by the Chief Building Official.

Qualifications :

  • Graduate of Architectural or Engineering Technologist Program or related discipline
  • Completion of the following courses related to Bill 124 :
  • Building Inspector I (Legal Processes and Responsibilities, The House, HVAC House, Plumbing the House) or Building Inspector II Completion of eleven (11) : (Legal Processes & Responsibilities, The House, HVAC House, Plumbing - the House, Small Buildings, Detection - Lighting & Power, Building Services, Building Structural, Plumbing – All Buildings, Large Buildings and Complex Buildings).
  • Five (5) years previous related experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of Building Code Act, Ontario Building Code, Provincial Offences Act and related documents.
  • Training in Ontario Municipal Law Enforcement and Ontario Property Standards.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction materials and techniques.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must possess a valid Ontario Driver’s License and have a vehicle available for use on the job.

Hours of Work : Monday to Friday 8 : 30 a.m. – 4 : 30 p.m. (37.5 hours per week)

Current Hourly Rate : $37.39 per hour (Building Inspector I) or $40.36 per hour (Building Inspector II)
