Job summary

A growing municipal government in Newfoundland and Labrador is seeking a qualified candidate for a Full-Time technical building engineering role. Responsibilities include supporting the Planning & Protective Services Division and providing technical assistance with engineering and planning tasks. Ideal candidates will have a Civil Engineering Technology Diploma, relevant experience, and CAD skills. Competitive salary of $76,650.87 annually. Applications close on July 28, 2025.

The Opportunity

Responsibilities

Under the general direction of the Manager of Development Services, this position is accountable for providing technical building engineering and planning assistance in administering the regulatory functions of the Planning & Protective Services Division. The role also involves supplying technical support related to the creation, interpretation, and application of technical data, engineering drawings, and development proposals.

Qualifications :

  • Successful completion of a Civil Engineering Technology Diploma Program is required.
  • A CET or a designation would be considered an asset.
  • Two (2) years of experience in a similar or related position is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with the public, contractors, and officials of government agencies and departments at all levels with tact and diplomacy.
  • Detailed knowledge of the National Building Code of Canada.
  • Working knowledge of standards related to minor engineering works.
  • Ability to use CAD software and equipment.
  • Ability to set/check building grades using a surveyor's level.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to develop detailed reports and proposals professionally.
  • Knowledge of building construction industry codes, engineering/planning standards, and related legal processes is desirable.

This is a unionized position working 35 hours per week. The salary for this position is based on an annual salary of $76,650.87, as per the Collective Agreement. The Town of Paradise is an Equal Opportunity Employer. The deadline to apply is July 28, 2025.
