Job summary

Keolis Commuter Services (KCS) in Massachusetts is seeking a Building & Bridges Mechanic to maintain MBTA properties and commuter rail systems. This unionized role starts at $34.29 per hour and requires at least five years in carpentry, masonry, steel work, welding, or related crafts.

You will perform construction, painting, station and bridge work, and operate power tools. Travel across MA sites, work outdoors in all weather, and adhere to safety rules. Valid driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum five years of experience in carpentry, masonry, steel work, welding, or related craft.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; trade/vocational training preferred.
  • CDL Class A/B and/or hoisting license preferred.
  • Willingness to travel to MA Commuter Rail locations; valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs construction, painting, station, fence, bridgework, landscaping, and related duties.
  • Works outdoors year-round in all weather and at heights up to 100 feet.
  • Operates power tools including drills, saws, chainsaws, snow blower, lawn mower, and skid steer.
  • Loads and unloads materials, coordinates with team, and complies with safety rules.

B&B Mechanic

The B&B Mechanic maintains MBTA properties and Commuter Rail systems within the Bridges & Buildings Department.

Rate of pay: This is a unionized position. The pay rates are non-negotiable. The starting pay rate for this position is $34.29

Minimum Knowledge and Experience:

  • Minimum five years’ experience in in one of the following: carpentry, masonry, steel work, welding, or associated craft
  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent educational credential or Trade and/or vocational training preferred.
  • CDL Class A or B and/or a Hoisting License preferred

Skills:

  • Communicates effectively with a variety of disciplines and levels, both internal and external stakeholders and maintain working relationships
  • Possesses excellent written, verbal, communication, interpersonal, and presentational skills
  • Capable of using basic hand tools, lifting, bending, stooping, and carrying heavy loads
  • Knowledge of MS Office preferred
  • Comprehends and follows written procedures

Key Accountabilities (Essential Job Duties):

  • Performs activities such as all phases of construction, painting, station work, fence work, bridgework, landscaping, grass cutting, and other duties as required
  • Involves working outside in all types of weather conditions year-round as assigned
  • Includes work at varying heights on bridges, roofs, etc.
  • Operates power drills, power saw, chainsaw, snow blower, lawn mower, power weed tracker, tracker and skid steer
  • Loading, unloading and general handling of materials and equipment as instructed
  • Collaborates with others as well as alone, as required
  • Complies with all related safety rules and procedures and report all hazards as required
  • Completes other duties assigned during emergencies

Requirements:

  • A valid driver’s license is required to successfully travel throughout the Commuter Rail network and locations as assigned
  • Ability to perform all duties above

Working Conditions (including Physical Demands):

  • Work involves walking, talking, and hearing, climbing, balancing (up t0 60 pounds), bending, and driving
  • Working at heights up to 100 feet
  • Shift Work: May be required to work off shifts for special projects.
  • Daily travel to various Keolis sites
  • On-Call: As per collective agreement
  • Teamwork: work as part of the Engineering team

Work location: Must be willing and able to travel to any of our MA Commuter Rail locations as required
