Shift Standard hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The successful candidate must also be available for extended work hours and emergency support after hours and weekends when needed.

General Responsibilities

Reporting to the Supervisor, Facilities, the Building Automation System Specialist is the site technical owner for building automation and related control systems supporting a regulated manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for the reliable, secure, and compliant operation of site systems including building management, HVAC controls, security, access control, digital video management, and life safety systems. The successful candidate will lead system administration, alarm and trend strategy, graphics and dashboard development, troubleshooting, upgrades, backup and recovery planning, and coordination with IT, operations, engineering, maintenance, and external vendors. This position combines controls expertise, system stewardship, and hands‑on support for critical building infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the site technical owner and subject matter expert for building automation and related control systems, including BMS, HVAC controls, security, access control, digital video management, controlled substance security, and applicable life safety interfaces.
  • Administer users and roles and ensure audit trails and user authentication meet company standards.
  • Manage the point database and configure alarms, and develop trends, graphics, and dashboards to support monitoring and system performance.
  • Troubleshoot, service and maintain automated industrial controls and equipment across the building automation systems.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute system maintenance, upgrades, backups, restore testing, disaster recovery preparedness, and platform lifecycle activities in partnership with IT and external vendors.
  • Maintain and update site access control standards, procedures, and annual access reviews to ensure personnel and visitors receive access appropriate to their roles.
  • Complete engineering deliverables such as PMs, calibrations, and drawings & procedure (SOP) updates.
  • Review system events, alarms, and audit trails as required and support investigations, deviations, corrective actions, and change controls for critical facility systems.
  • Support commissioning, startup, qualification, and change implementation for system modifications, ensuring risks are assessed and changes are executed in a controlled manner.
  • Coordinate with IT on network connectivity, patching, cybersecurity controls, certificates, remote access, backups, and recovery requirements for building automation platforms.
  • Maintain accurate engineering documentation including drawings, SOP updates, PM documentation, system inventories, backup records, and recovery procedures.
  • Provide technical support and training to operators, electricians, maintenance personnel, and internal users to promote reliable use and understanding of building automation systems.
  • Support and conduct EN investigations, generate corrective and preventative actions (CAPA) and CRs for critical facility systems.
  • Support continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to improve system reliability, alarm management, energy performance, maintainability, and user effectiveness.
  • Actively participate in occupational health, safety, and wellness while following site procedures and safe work practices.
Education & Experience Requirements
  • Journeyperson Electrician, Certified Engineering Technologist, or equivalent technical training in electrical, controls, automation, or building systems.
  • 5+ years of experience in building automation, facilities controls, industrial controls, or critical building systems.
  • 3+ years of experience administering or supporting enterprise building automation or control platforms such as Honeywell, Siemens, Johnson Controls, Schneider, Rockwell, or similar systems.
  • Experience in regulated manufacturing, pharmaceutical, healthcare, or other highly controlled environment is preferred.
Technical and Professional Requirements
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical one-lines, P&IDs, control schematics, network layouts, and sequences of operation.
  • Working knowledge of BAS communication protocols such as BACnet and Modbus, with comfort in IP addressing, subnets, and basic switching or routing concepts.
  • Experience configuring alarms, trends, graphics, dashboards, point databases, and user access for building automation platforms.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills across HVAC, controls, instrumentation, and related field devices.
  • Working knowledge of Windows client and server environments, user and group administration, backup and restore practices, and secure remote access tools.
  • Experience supporting controlled changes, commissioning, qualification, or validation activities for critical systems is an asset.
  • Proficiency with CMMS/EAM systems (creating PMs, parts, costs, asset history).
  • Exposure to Lean, Six Sigma, and Enterprise excellence principles and practice.
  • Confident user of MS office tools.
  • Experience working with SAP is an advantage.

Total Rewards

The range of starting base pay for this role is $71,483 - $97,000. Actual starting pay will be based on a wide range of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, qualifications, education, and location. In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for participation in either (i) our annual bonus program or (ii) a sales incentive plan.
