Summarized Position Responsibilities:
The Building and Licensing Assistant will support the Development Services Division, focusing on building permit administration, licensing processes, and the continuous improvement of departmental systems and procedures. This position plays a key role in ensuring efficient project execution, software development, statistical tracking, and departmental development. The ideal candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, and skilled in using software to streamline processes, improve reporting, and assist in the successful delivery of departmental projects.

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • Completion of post-secondary training in administrative courses, building technology or local government related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • A minimum of 2 years experience in a related position
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a customer-focused approach
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); experience with database management or project management software is preferred (Cityview, GIS, etc.)
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy
  • Working knowledge of the Local Government Act, the BC Building Code, land use policies, municipal bylaws, and development processes
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies and systems quickly
  • The ability to exercise courtesy, tact and diplomacy ion the exchange of information with employees, external contacts, and to members of the public
