BUDGET & FINANCIAL ANALYST

Full-time position - 35 hours per week – 1.0 FTE

Duration: Permanent; Start date: Immediately

Salary range: $ 81,448 - $92,552

The Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board is seeking a Budget & Financial Analyst. The Budget & Financial Analyst is accountable to the Manager of Financial Services and is responsible for providing support in the preparation and control, maintenance of accurate accounting records, financial reporting, and development of financial procedures, internal controls, and financial systems.

Given the central nature of Business Services, it is imperative that the Budget & Financial Analyst works in collaboration and cooperation with schools and other departments to build and execute oversight mechanisms for the financial reporting process of the Board to ensure that efficient and effective practices are active.

Duties will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Work closely with the Manager of Financial Services and assist with the Board’s reporting requirements to the Ministry of Education submissions including budgets, revised estimates, consolidated reporting, and financial statements cycles.
  • Work closely with the Manager of Facility and Construction Services and Facility Supervisors to ensure the Capital and Major Projects are recorded properly in accordance with the funding guidelines.
  • Assist in the preparation of internal financial reports, including monitoring monthly budgets and preparation of variance analysis identifying areas of concern.
  • Provide advice and guidance to Managers, Principals, senior staff, and departments when developing their budgets and follow up on variances throughout the year.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of streamlined business processes, procedures, reports, and training to meet the changing financial needs of the Board.
  • Work in collaboration with the Payroll and HR departments to ensure proper GL account coding.
  • Provide excellent customer service to various schools, business departments, and external contacts.
  • Responsible for ensuring the integrity of the GL structure in the financial system, ensuring it meets the Ministry of Education code of account guidelines.
  • Lead or participate in special projects related to program, budgeting and/or finance or providing expertise with other issues within the scope of the Department.
  • Special projects, assignments, and ad hoc duties as necessary related to Budget and Financial analysis.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Manager of Financial Services.

Candidates must possess:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Business Administration, Finance, or related field or equivalent.
  • Professional Accounting designation or working towards designation (CPA: CA, CMA, CGA) with completion expected within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in finance or related experience – preferably in a school board environment.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills with experience in the effective management of multiple projects and demonstrated ability to successfully complete tasks.
  • Demonstrate personal initiative, sound judgement, strong interpersonal, organization, and communication skills with the ability to function effectively and collaboratively with various employee groups and external contacts.
  • Strong analytical skills with a commitment to accuracy and attention to detail. In addition to demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Well versed in accounting concepts for Ontario school boards and comprehensive understanding of complex educational funding requirements would be considered an asset.
  • Proficient computer skills with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite products, particularly Excel.
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle.
