City of Thunder Bay – Our Finance Division has a rewarding opportunity for a full-time Budget Analyst and we are seeking a dynamic professional to join our team!

Our Finance Division provides financial services such as banking, accounting, investments, debt analysis, and accounts payable. We handle the City’s capital and operating budgets, consolidated financial statements, procurement of goods and services, and disposal of surplus goods. The Division also operates store facilities, weigh scales, refuelling facilities, courier services, graphics design, and printing for City departments.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager – Budgets & Financial Planning, as the Budget Analyst, you will coordinate the budget preparation, variance reporting, process re-engineering, performance measurement activities, and participate in strategic business planning of the Department.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Degree in business administration or commerce with a major in accounting, along with three years of accounting or related experience, preferably in the municipal or broader public sector; or
  • Diploma in business administration with a focus on accounting and five years of relevant experience, preferably in the municipal or broader public sector
  • Three years of experience in budget preparation, financial reporting, and resource management
  • Ability to manage time effectively and work independently under tight deadlines and changing priorities
  • Excellent project management, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
