About us
NRGene Canada is a wholly owned subsidiary of NRGene Ltd., a publicly traded Israeli company (TASE:NRGN). NRGene applies advanced genomic analysis technology to accelerate natural breeding (non-GMO) in animals and plants. NRGene Canada is based in Saskatchewan and operates as an R&D center that focuses on using NRGene’s technology for breeding of Black Soldier Fly (BSF) elite varieties. BSF larvae are used for the treatment of agricultural waste, turning it into alternative protein used in animal feed.

About this position
We are looking for a highly motivated Research Technician to join the North American Insect Center of NRGene Canada. As a Research Technician, you will take part in our Black Soldier Fly (BSF) growing activities and daily operations. The center includes the lab area for BSF rearing, phenotyping, and genotyping as well as a production area for commercialization. The center is located in Innovation Place, University of Saskatchewan.

* This is an on-site position in Saskatoon, SK, Canada, and it is open for Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and legal work permit holders of Canada (No exceptions).

Responsibilities:

  1. Involvement in research projects
  2. Prepare feed and rear BSF
  3. BSF phenotyping and data collection
  4. Collect and dissect BSF for DNA extraction and storing
  5. Maintain BSF rearing and growing facilities
  6. Participate in other administrative and operational activities
  7. Sample collection for genotype analysis

Our Ideal team member:

  1. Bachelor's degree/Master's degree (or equivalent) in life sciences or closely related technical field of scientific research;
  2. Experience in working with insects
  3. Experience in lab work and safety regulations
  4. Knowledge in insect breeding and data analysis is an asset
  5. Willingness and ability to work unconventional hours when required (including weekends, after regular hours, and holidays).
