Job summary

Nova Scotia Eastern Railway Inc. seeks a Bridgetender for on-site work in Antigonish, NS. You will operate and maintain the bridge on the Canso Causeway Swing Bridge, ensuring safety and proper operating practices under supervision.

This seasonal role requires a high school diploma, a valid driver’s license, and knowledge of CROR rules. You will coordinate with train movements, handle road traffic signals, and perform routine maintenance as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• Valid driving license.
• CROR rules knowledge is required.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work alone and maintain safety standards.
• Experience as Bridgetender is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Operate the railway bridge.
• Operate gates and lights to stop vehicle traffic.
• Perform minor inspections and small repairs on the structure.
• Climb ladders to access overhead bridge.
• Communicate by radio and telephone with authorized train movements.
• Deal with motorized traffic from highways.
• Clean debris, ice, and snow from bridge wedges.
• Perform all other related tasks.
