Qualifications

  • Experience in physical labor and working in structural environments.
  • Completion of training such as Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR).
  • Ability to read detailed drawings and sketches.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate and build railway bridge components from timber, concrete, and steel.
  • Operate Hi-rail boom trucks for loading and unloading materials.
  • Perform minor maintenance on tools and work in a safety-sensitive environment.

Job Summary

TheBridge Personand TruckDriver is responsible for contributing to Bridges and Structures.The roleassistswiththereplacementor repairofworn or broken components, fabrication andtheerection of new components. The role works withtimber, concrete and steel railway structures, including bridges and culverts.

Major Responsibilities

  • Fabricate, assemble, and build timber, concrete and steel railway bridge components
  • Use various common and specialized hand and power tools
  • Prepare andcarry out minor maintenance of tools for assigned work
  • Remove and replace defective bridge, culvert, and other structural components
  • Load, unload, sort, shovel, and distribute various materials
  • Clean-upof materialsafter workiscompleted
  • Operate Hi-rail boom trucksto load, transport,and unload bridge, as well asculvert material on road and rail



Working Conditions

  • The role is performed in an outdoor environment in various types of weather conditions and is a safety-sensitive environment with heavy moving equipment and noisy surroundings
  • The role must be capable of working in various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • The role requires frequent travel (80%) that requires work away from home for extended periods to Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario
  • The role requires the ability to lift from 50 to 85lbsas well as to climb and work at height using fall protection equipment
  • May be required to work with respirator and hearing protection.



Requirements

  • Experience in structural environments
  • Experience in physicallabour, including lifting and occasional heavy lifting*
  • Completion of highSchoolDiplomaor General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Attend, pass, and maintain applicable training such as timbertrestle, crane, Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR), Track Inspection Guidelines (TIG), National Safety Code (NSC), and steelbridge
  • Class 3 Drivers’Licencewith air endorsement or equivalent in the province of residence*
  • Ability to read and understand detailed drawings and sketches for various types of repair work and new construction
  • Ability to follow strict guidelines concerning safe work practices
  • Knowledge of cleaning, fabrication, installation, repairs, and maintenance of steel and concrete structures, as well as culverts

*Any experience/education/skills/knowledge for these above would be considered as an asset

This position is a unionized position, as such pay and benefits are governed by the applicable Collective Agreement.



Paid Training

Successful candidates will take part in a paid four-week training program at a CN Campus (Winnipeg, MB) with additional on-the-job training to help ensure that they have received the adequate knowledge to operate in accordance with regulatory requirements and CN’s safety standards. The training is primarily on health and safety rules as successful completion of the classroom and on-the-job training is required to continue employment as a Steel Bridge Worker at CN.



Successful Candidate Process:

  • Medical assessment (including drug, hearing, and vision).
  • Criminal background check
  • Offer Letter



Paid Training Structure:

  • 4 weeks at CN Campus (Classroom training & Knowledge Checks)
