Job summary

The City of Greater Sudbury is seeking a skilled Bricklayer for a limited position within the Roads Section of their Linear Infrastructure Services. This role involves precise masonry work in various municipal projects and requires a sound understanding of safety protocols and independent work capabilities. The successful candidate will work 80 hours bi-weekly at a competitive hourly rate.

Qualifications

  • Experience as a Bricklayer for at least 3 years.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Satisfactory health and attendance history.

Responsibilities

  • Lay brick, concrete block, and building stone for construction and maintenance.
  • Maintain knowledge of safety regulations and legislation.

Affiliation: CUPE 4705 Outside Unit

Hours of Work: 80 hours bi-weekly

Shift Work Required: No

Rate of Pay: $31.39 per hour

The start date will follow the selection process.

Characteristic Duties: Under the supervision of a Foreperson.

  • Lay brick, concrete block, building stone or shaped tile in the construction and maintenance of sewers, manholes, catchbasins, valve chambers, retaining walls or building walls.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of CGS's Safety Manual and the applicable Provincial Legislation listed therein.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of Secondary School (Grade XII) Education.
  • Minimum of three years (3) experience as a Bricklayer.
  • Must be able to work without direct supervision and carry out all work required in the construction of brick and block manholes, catch basins, valve chambers or retaining walls.
  • Ability to interpret plans and specifications as required.
  • Must be able to effectively complete C.M.M.S. Crew Cards.
  • Excellent use of English; verbally and in writing.
  • Satisfactory health, attendance and former employment history.
  • May require the use of a CGS vehicle on CGS business. Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess a valid driver's licence and have an acceptable driving record.

This job is also being posted as a development opportunity. Should there be no fully qualified candidate for this position, a candidate who can be expected to meet the required qualifications within a reasonable period of time may be considered for this position as a development opportunity.

Development opportunity rate of pay: $29.82 per hour. The successful candidate will be paid at the reduced rate until the minimum qualifications have been met.
