The Ottawa Catholic School Board in Ottawa is seeking a Breakfast Monitor (Casual) for St. Elizabeth School. This casual morning position supports students during breakfast, helps with simple food preparation, and ensures safe, orderly service in the school dining area.

The role requires strong communication, calmness under pressure, and adherence to nutrition guidelines, with a typical 1.5 hour shift from 7:30–9:00 am, five days weekly, at roughly $17.60 per hour plus 4% vacation pay.

Qualifications

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to be calm in a crisis.
  • Tact and discretion.
  • First Aid and CPR certification would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • General supervision and monitoring of students during lunch breaks in the cafeteria and in the yard.
  • Assist students to open lunch containers and clean tables after lunch.
  • Create simple, healthful menus for breakfasts or snacks.
  • Plan food and supply purchases to maximize the budget while adhering to the Nutrition Guidelines.
  • Handle, transport, store, prepare and serve foods safely.
  • Accurately track and record the number of meals prepared daily for monthly reporting purposes.
  • Be informed about the school’s annual nutrition budget and stay within it.
  • Submit all receipts/invoices to the In-School Team member responsible for entering data into Webtracker each month.
  • Read and understand training materials.
  • Liaise with the ONFE SBP Community Development Coordinator assigned to the school.
  • Be aware of all health and safety procedures, and the school’s emergency procedures (e.g., shelter-in-place, fire, choking, allergic reactions, etc.).

Salary

These are casual positions working approximately 1.5 hours per day, five (5) days per week, from 7:30-9:00 am with an hourly wage of $17.60 plus 4% in lieu of vacation pay.
