JOB TITLE: MUSIC INSTRUCTOR (Brass instruments)

JOB TYPE: Contractor: P/T, up to 5-hours to start, with opportunity to grow

BACKGROUND:

PMM is a small but mighty music school located in the trendy South Granville neighbourhood of Vancouver. As a result of our consistent, and continued growth, we are in need of a brass instructor to join the faculty on site at our studio HQ as soon as is convenient. This contracted position will take over 2-4 students from one of the current owners, plus build up a schedule of their own students as well. It is NOT a remote teaching job. This contracted position will start with 1-day per week, but has the opportunity to expand to more days as the teacher roster fills with students. Teacher-Contractors are paid on a commission, and will primarily offer one-on-one lessons. The ideal candidate will be fluent with teaching trumpet, along with Trombone, Euphonium, and/or French Horn.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Brass Instructor will be responsible for teaching private one-on-one lessons at Pleasant Mountain Music to a variety of skill levels and age ranges. Our largest group of players are beginner players, often coming from school bands, but we do also offer lessons on classical or jazz training for those who are interested (including 2 current students). Additionally there is a large ensemble room should the teacher wish to run any Master Classes or workshops throughout the year to further their students musicianship experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Administer lessons generally on a weekly basis
• Provide ongoing feedback to parents/students throughout the year on progress and/or areas of improvement
• Encourage fun and life-long musicianship in your students
• Encourage your students to participate in PMM’s semi-annual recitals (June & December)
• If applicable, encourage your students to participate in exams, festivals, or other performance opportunities
• Assist parents in securing music books and/or sheet music from time to time

REQUIREMENTS

• Diploma, degree, or equivalent experience in Music Performance or Music Education
• Previous experience teaching private one-on-one lessons
• Performance experience on your primary instrument

ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE THAT WILL BE BENEFICIAL TO CANDIDATES:

• Generally knowledgeable or keen interest in learning about musical instruments
• Generally knowledgeable or keen interest in learning about Vancouver’s local music scene
• Knowledge of Royal Conservatory of Music, ABRSM, Kiwanis Music Festival, or other accredited music programs
• Knowledge of school band and/or Vancouver-based community bands
• Knowledge of rehearsal/audition process for University/College
• Familiarity with Discord
• Fluency in a second language
• Playing experience and/or training on another instrument (like piano, guitar, or voice)
