JMA Consulting is seeking a part-time Bookkeeper / Accounting Assistant for 20 hours per week at $27 per hour. The role is in-person in our office in downtown Toronto, ON.

Role Description

The Bookkeeper / Accounting Assistant will be responsible for managing financial statements, handling bookkeeping tasks, using accounting software, and ensuring accurate journal entries. This role also includes general administrative duties to support the consultancy's operations efficiently.

Responsibilities
  • Maintaining, monitoring and reconciling general ledger accounts
  • Reconciliation of 10 bank balances in four currencies
  • Assisting the President in recording his billable time
  • Processing sales invoices for consulting hours and services and verifying against contracts
  • Recording ad hoc adjusting entries on a regular basis
  • Identifying issues and errors, investigating discrepancies, and supporting in resolutions
  • Preparing the month end reports and year end statements in a timely manner
  • Preparing GST / HST filings, overseeing payroll filings, preparing T2 filings including historical filings
  • Contributing to innovation, which may include initiating process improvement, documenting new or updated procedures, developing standardized templates and collaborating with the President and other team members on such initiatives
Qualifications
  • Proficiency in managing bookkeeping and preparing financial statements and tax filings for a consulting firm
  • Experience with accounting software and accurate journal entries
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a hybrid work environment
  • Previous experience in a consultancy or similar industry is a plus
  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field
Mandatory Requirements
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada
  • Able to work in-person a minimum of 3 days per week in our Toronto office at King St E and Parliament
  • Able to provide 3 professional references; two references are in a supervisory role or have directed your work capacity
