Learning And Development Specialist at Eva's

EVA’S IS RECRUITING BOARD DIRECTORS:

Join Us in Reimagining the Future for Black Youth Experiencing Homelessness

Eva’s Initiatives for Homeless Youth is undergoing a transformative journey — one rooted in equity, anchored in social justice, and committed to the flourishing of Black youth. We are not just another youth-serving organization. We are boldly becoming a Black-focused organization with an intersectional lens, one that confronts the disproportionate impact of homelessness on Black youth while building a system that works better for all.

We are recruiting new members to serve on our Board of Directors — individuals who share our belief that ending youth homelessness must begin by addressing the unique experiences of those most affected.

WHY JOIN THE BOARD AT EVA’S

This is a pivotal moment in Eva’s story. As we define and shape what it means to be a Black-focused organization, your leadership will help guide the development of a Black-centred B3 equity framework that reflects the realities, aspirations, and brilliance of Black youth. To meet the criteria of B3, an organization must be Black-mandated with an organization-wide commitment to centring the needs of Black individuals, Black-led by having representation at all levels of staff and governing bodies, and Black-serving with programs and services intentionally designed and grounded in African knowledge systems. At Eva’s, we ensure our governance, programs, and partnerships are grounded in the lived experiences, cultural knowledge and priorities of Black youth to create a stronger system that benefits all youth that come through our doors.

Our work is urgent, and our impact is deep:

  • Black youth are overrepresented in the homelessness system yet underserved by it. 82% of the youth in Eva's programs are Black, as compared to only 9% of Torontonians, and their journeys require specialized approaches to systemic barriers.
  • When we address homelessness through a Black-focused lens, we create innovative, inclusive, and systemic solutions that benefit all youth.
  • By centring those most marginalized, we improve service delivery, enhance program outcomes, and build a stronger continuum of care.
  • Equity centred in decolonization and anti-oppression frameworks isn’t additive at Eva’s — it’s foundational.

Eva’s helps young people build futures where they can thrive. We support youth aged 16–24 who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness — with a commitment to removing systemic barriers, building pathways to housing, and investing in young people’s full potential.

Founded by Eva Maud Smith, who challenged us with the statement “What hurt one of us, hurt all of us”, Eva’s continues her legacy by prioritizing youth who are too often failed by systems. We are proud to centre Black youth in our work, while supporting all youth across race, gender identity, sexual orientation, and lived experience.
