Job description

The Board Certified Behaviour Analyst will provide behavioural expertise as a member of the interdisciplinary team. The Behaviouralist will, along with other members of the team, establish a therapeutic milieu on the unit while providing detailed assessments of the function of the behaviour of the individual patients. The Behaviouralist will assess and support patients and families with behavioural challenges specific to their diagnosis through the development of and implementation of behavior programs. The Behaviouralist will provide education and training to team members in the application and integration of these interventions or approaches to care into the patients daily care plans, Through the provision of patient and non-patient care activities, the Behaviouralist enhances the quality of life of patients by assessing, planning and implementing individually designed behavior modification programs to maintain, improve, or restore mental health and wellbeing. Although the Behaviouralist will primarily support patients within the inpatient Toldo Neurobehavioral Institute, given their expertise, they may occasionally be required to provide time-limited support individuals with concurrent mental health and behaviors and education to interprofessional teams within inpatient Restorative care.

Qualifications : RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Attends departmental meetings and participates in team rounds and conferences in assigned program
  • Completes and submits workload measurements / statistics, and other documentation as required
  • Participates and directs patient care planning specific to patient diagnosis and behavior modification in collaboration with team and family members
  • Initiates patient assessments and provides support to individual patients and families
  • Maintains documentation in accordance with departmental / program policies and organizational standards
  • Manages acute and chronic mental health conditions based on knowledge of patient diagnosis
  • Provide consultation, observation and data collection within the healthcare environment
  • Understand family dynamics and how they affect the coordination of care and be inclusive of caregivers throughout the planning and treatment process
  • Support transitions in care through collaboration with community partners

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

  • Demonstrated knowledge of theories, methods and techniques in applied behavior analysis and in developing evidence based programs for those with personality disorder and dual diagnosis and the older adult
  • Ability to exercise sound clinical judgement and to function in an independent, self-directed manner
  • Strong empathy for individuals experiencing mental illness
  • Strong communication, time-management, and organizational skills
  • Computer proficiency
  • Demonstrated competence with department and organizational safety, emergency and infection control procedures

Education and / or Certification :

  • Master’s Degree in Applied Behaviour Analysis, Applied Disability Studies, Counselling, Social Work, Occupation Therapy
  • Providing Behaviour Therapy Services to those with Mental Illness particularly Personality Disorder, Dual Diagnosis and Geriatrics – 1 - 2 years of experience
  • Registered as a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst – Required
  • Registered as an Ontario Association of Applied Behaviour Analysts – Required
  • Registered with the College of Psychologist of Ontario – Required
