The Position

The Opportunity

As the Biostatistics Leader - Cardiovascular, Renal, and Metabolic (CVRM), you will provide strategic leadership and oversight across all Biostatisticians within CVRM, ensuring a cohesive and high-performing sub-function that drives excellence in service of our larger global Biostatistics strategy through study design, data analysis, and insights generation. You will report to the Global Head of Biostatistics and be responsible for leading and ensuring the overall performance of the Biostatistic team serving the CVRM area in their delivery against the portfolio. Your role will be instrumental in informing clinical design, in partnership with all therapeutic area-aligned Biostatistics TA Leaders.

You will drive excellence in Biostatistics in CVRM by partnering cross-functionally across PD Data Sciences & Analytics (PD-DSA) to support portfolio delivery. You will also partner with other Biostatistics TA Leaders on common issues impacting all therapeutic areas and/or Biostatistics teams at Roche. Leveraging the strengths of a global team, you will create an inspiring environment where your team feels empowered, takes ownership, and strives for continuous improvement. You will establish key relationships internally and externally, collaborating to stay at the industry forefront. You may also contribute to, develop, and lead initiatives shaping our technical, business, and healthcare environments.

You will lead a global organization of approximately 20-50 Biostatisticians supporting late-stage development within your therapeutic area. Your direct reports will include directors and above. Reporting to the Global Head of Biostatistics, you will influence and contribute to the strategy and success of Roche's late-stage development programs.

PD-DSA SHARED LEADERSHIP OBJECTIVES
  1. Develop and set a clear PD-DSA strategy and goals aligned with Roche's broader objectives, integrating Roche's One Pharma strategy, PD goals, and R&D Excellence methods.
  2. Embed and drive adoption of the 3Ds (Data, Digital/AI, and Design) across teams' workflows, ensuring seamless integration into daily operations.
  3. Act as a role model by delivering excellence, fostering a culture of learning, growth, and continuous improvement.
  4. Define and create accountability across functions, working closely with colleagues and partners to maintain alignment and drive collaboration.
Leadership and Strategy
  • Provide strategic leadership for the CVRM Biostatistics strategy, ensuring high-quality, consistent approaches aligned with global strategies.
  • Develop and implement strategic objectives specific to CVRM, ensuring alignment with broader organizational goals.
  • Ensure early integration of biostatistical considerations in study designs, aligning with best practices.
  • Partner with senior leadership across various teams to shape the future of statistical contributions at Roche.
  • Represent statistical expertise in governance and development boards to ensure scientific rigor.
  • Address challenges proactively and escalate as needed.
Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships
  • Act as the primary liaison between Biostatistics and key stakeholders to drive alignment and shape outcomes.
  • Ensure collaboration with external partners, including regulatory agencies and academic institutions.
  • Build and foster internal and external partnerships, influencing study design and data strategies.
  • Represent Biostatistics in cross-functional meetings, regulatory interactions, and collaborations.
  • Provide data-driven insights to influence therapeutic area strategies.
Technical Biostatistics Accountability
  • Serve as the PD-DSA point of contact for CVRM, overseeing data analysis and insights strategies.
  • Maintain scientific rigor across all data analyses and interpretations.
  • Support adoption of digital & AI advancements in analytics, leveraging modern technologies.
  • Ensure excellence in data analysis, insights, and interpretation for CVRM.
  • Adhere to standards and best practices for statistical methods and deliverables.
Team Development
  • Lead, inspire, and develop a high-performing global team of biostatistics leaders.
  • Establish and monitor performance metrics, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Provide ongoing feedback, recognition, and professional development opportunities.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous learning.
  • Partner with P&C and leadership to attract, retain, and develop top talent.
Who You Are
  • PhD or advanced degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, or Mathematics.
  • Over 10 years of senior-level experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry, with strategic focus on TA.
  • Deep knowledge of GCP, regulations, and compliance standards related to data and statistics.
  • Thorough understanding of the drug development lifecycle, data types, and analytics methods.
  • Experience with high-dimensional data and emerging analytics trends.
  • Successful in establishing partnerships and acting as an ambassador for Roche.
  • Willingness to adopt new technologies, with a keen interest in AI and digital advancements.
  • Influential communicator with strong English skills.
  • Willing to travel approximately 20% internationally.
