Biomedical Technologist II - CVH Biomed Engineer

Position: Biomedical Engineering Technologist

Dept.: Information Services

Site: Mississauga site (Coverage for CVH; Queensway Health Centre and satellite sites as required)

Shift: 7.5 hour shifts, 8am - 4pm

Responsibilities

Preventive Maintenance (PM):
Ensure timely completion of PM tasks to meet Departmental targets.
Maintain accurate documentation and tracking of completed PM activities.

Maintenance and Repairs:
Perform repairs and maintenance on medical equipment to minimize downtime and ensure continuous operation.
Troubleshoot complex performance issues in medical devices and investigate hazards or alerts.

Equipment Management:
Ensure Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for equipment under the portfolio are consistently met.
Support device integration with middleware and clinical environments (e.g., EPIC).

Customer and Clinical Support:
Provide technical or clinical support during periods of clinical difficulty at the patient bedside.
Facilitate communication and relationships between clinical staff and Biomedical Engineering.

Collaboration with the Senior Project Manager:
Assist the Senior Project Manager with planning and executing biomedical projects, including equipment upgrades, installations, and workflow optimization.
Contribute to project success by providing technical expertise and support.

Alerts, Recalls, and Incident Investigations:
Assist clinical engineers with managing equipment alerts, recalls, and safety notifications.
Support incident investigations by troubleshooting equipment and documenting findings to ensure patient and staff safety.

Safety and Compliance:
Maintain a safe work environment for coworkers, patients, and visitors.
Collaborate to enhance Biomedical Engineering practices to improve productivity.

Collaboration and Flexibility:
Provide coverage and backup for satellite sites and other THP sites as needed.
Support team members to ensure operational continuity and respond to workload pressures across sites.

Operational Support:
Assist with identifying practices that enhance Biomedical Engineering operations.
Support a customer-focused environment, emphasizing excellent service.

Qualifications

Graduate of a recognized program in Biomedical Engineering Technology or equivalent education.
Certification with Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) or equivalent from another province is preferred but not required.
Certification as a Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) by the International Certification Commission (ICC) is an asset.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a strong customer-focused approach.
Proven ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a dynamic team.
Strong interpersonal skills, fostering collaboration and teamwork.
Demonstrated ability to provide outstanding customer service with a focus on clinical and technical support.
Excellent decision-making skills under pressure and in complex situations.
Strong organizational abilities combined with advanced problem-solving skills.
Consistent record of excellent attendance and work performance.
Solid understanding of computer hardware and application programs, including knowledge of:
• Clinical networks, servers, system architecture, Ethernet communication, and computer operating systems.
• Ongoing patching and updates of medical device software.
Experience with device integration using Capsule middleware in the EPIC environment is an asset.
Advanced mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting and maintaining medical devices.
Physically capable of lifting up to 40 pounds.
Extensive familiarity with current clinical equipment and their applications.
