Job summary

Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) is seeking a Biomedical Technologist for the Dialysis program to maintain and service dialysis equipment, ensuring reliability and safety for patient care.

This permanent, full-time role in Peterborough, Ontario requires a 3-year Electronic/Biomedical Engineering Technology background, with preference for a dialysis specialty postgraduate diploma and hospital experience.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a recognized 3-year Electronic/Biomedical Engineering Technology program.
  • Postgraduate diploma from a Dialysis/Biomedical Engineering Technology program, preferred.
  • 3 years of related experience in a hospital or industrial setting in the Biomedical/Dialysis field preferred.
  • Previous hospital experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • The Renal Technologist is responsible for maintaining all equipment related to dialysis, through regular scheduled maintenance and routine repair.

Position: Biomedical Technologist, Dialysis Department: AC DN Hemodialysis Reg Program Position Status: Permanent Time Type: Full time Union: OPSEU PARAMEDICAL 373 (Ontario Public Service Employees Union Paramedical 373) Location: Peterborough, ON Language: English Salary Range: $36.84 - $50.24 per hour

HOURS OF WORK:

The stated hours of work are approximate as schedules are subject to change with the operational needs of the Health Centre. Changes made to hours of work will follow the terms of the applicable collective agreement, company policy and/or legislation.

Biomedical Technologist, Dialysis
WHAT YOU’LL DO:

The Renal Technologist is responsible for maintaining all equipment related to dialysis, through regular scheduled maintenance and routine repair.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
  • Graduate of a recognized 3-year Electronic/Biomedical Engineering Technology program.
  • Postgraduate diploma from a Dialysis/Biomedical Engineering Technology program, preferred.
  • 3 years of related experience in a hospital or industrial setting in the Biomedical/Dialysis field preferred.
  • Previous recent Hospital experience preferred.
WHO YOU ARE:
  • Computer literate with Microsoft office experience and general knowledge of PC Hardware/Software configurations
  • Individual must be familiar with the components which make up a \"water system\" including pre-treatment such as numerous particles filters, carbon filtration, softening systems, Ultra violet, temperature blending, and Ultrafiltration
  • Preferred experience with working on Fresenius 5008/5008S dialysis machines
  • Knowledge of use of chemicals such as cold sterilization, hypochlorite and citric acid concentrations to clean, descale and disinfect internal components of numerous dialysis equipment
  • Individual must have knowledge of electronics and hydraulics pertaining to the internals of Dialysis machines, RO water systems and other medical equipment Maintain tools and test equipment properly and ensuring they are calibrated.
  • Ability and willingness to learn, understand and follow technical guidelines as related to medical equipment company CSA, AAMI.
  • Must be physically able to perform duties requiring heavy exertion (lifting, pushing and pulling).
  • Must be able to walk/stand for extended periods of time
  • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively and co-operatively with all levels of staff, patients, physicians and the public.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills are important for interaction with patients and staff.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills are required to multi-task and prioritize workload.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a professional manner under stressful conditions.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to a constantly changing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions and use good judgement.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Possess good concentration skills.
