Job summary

MIC Medical Imaging in Edmonton, AB is seeking a Biomedical Equipment Technologist to support repair and maintenance of diagnostic imaging equipment across locations.

You will respond to service requests, diagnose issues, complete preventive maintenance, calibrations, and ensure compliance with manufacturer and regulatory standards. The role requires hands-on technical work and strong teamwork.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of diagnostic imaging service experience in field or hospital.
• Experience with PACS and servicing Digital Radiography, Mammography, Ultrasound systems preferred.
• Post-secondary education in Electronics Technology or related field; Biomedical Engineering Technology diploma preferred.
• Knowledge of DICOM, networking, and PC systems with repair capabilities.
• Excellent communication, time management, and leadership skills.
• Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle; travel within the Edmonton region required.
• Flexibility to work evenings/weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

• Respond to service requests, troubleshoot and repair equipment issues, and perform preventative maintenance.
• Diagnose equipment issues, perform calibrations, and complete inspections.
• Document maintenance and repairs, ensuring regulatory and manufacturer standards.
• Collaborate with clinicians, vendors, and MIC teams to support patient care.

The Opportunity

The Biomedical Technology Department at MIC is growing and looking for a Biomedical Equipment Technologist. The Biomedical Equipment Technologist supports the repair and maintenance of diagnostic medical equipment through out all our locations.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on technical work, problem-solving, and supporting the safe and reliable operation of medical equipment. In this role, you will respond to service requests, diagnose and repair equipment issues, complete preventative maintenance, inspections, and calibrations, and help ensure MIC’s diagnostic imaging equipment meets manufacturer and regulatory standards. Your attention to detail, strong communication skills, and commitment to service excellence will support clinicians and staff in delivering consistent, high-quality patient care. The ideal candidate has experience servicing diagnostic imaging equipment, works well both independently and as part of a team, and is looking to contribute their technical expertise in a meaningful healthcare environment.

Role and Responsibilities

As a Biomedical Equipment Technologist, you will play a key role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and effective operation of MIC’s medical equipment. You will respond to service requests, troubleshoot and repair equipment issues, complete preventative maintenance, inspections, calibrations, and documentation, and support compliance with manufacturer and regulatory standards. Working both independently and collaboratively with MIC teams, clinicians, and vendors, you will help safeguard company assets, provide equipment training and support, and contribute to the consistent delivery of high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure optimal performance and reliability of MIC's medical equipment.
• Respond to service requests and diagnose equipment issues and failures.
• Troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, evaluate, and inspect a wide range of biomedical and electronic equipment.
• Assess the safety, effectiveness, and operational efficiency of medical devices.
• Install, service, and maintain medical equipment in accordance with manufacturer and regulatory standards.
• Provide training and support to clinicians and staff on the proper use of equipment.
• Effectively manage and safeguard company assets.
• Complete all administrative requirements accurately and in a timely manner, including service documentation, expense reports, preventive maintenance records, and related paperwork.
• Work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment, demonstrating strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Partner with MIC team members and vendors to support consistent, high-quality patient care.

Required Qualifications

• At least 2 years of diagnostic imaging service experience, either in the field or within a hospital setting is required.
• Experience with PACS and servicing Digital Radiography, Mammography, Ultrasound, and other diagnostic imaging systems is preferred.
• Post-secondary education in Electronics Technology or a related field, combined with relevant experience; Biomedical Engineering Technology diploma strongly preferred.
• Working knowledge of DICOM, networking, and PC systems, with proven component-level repair capabilities.
• Strong analytical, communication, and critical thinking skills.
• Demonstrated ability in time management, organization, and leadership.
• Valid driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle are required, as this role involves regular travel within the Edmonton region.
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required based on business needs. (Very limited)
• Proficiency in the use of mechanical devices, tools, and diagnostic test equipment.
• Safely work with radiation sources and/or radioactive materials; wear all required personal protective equipment.
• Ability to regularly lift and carry objects weighing over 50 pounds.
