Job Title:

Biomanufacturing Technician – Upstream

Job Duties:
  • Prepare and operate bioreactors and fermenters to support cell culture and microbial growth processes.
  • Assist in inoculation, monitoring, and harvesting of cell cultures used in the production of therapeutic proteins and biologics.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and batch records to maintain compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Monitor and control critical process parameters (CPPs) such as pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen, and agitation rates.
  • Set up, sanitize, and maintain upstream equipment including tanks, tubing, and filtration systems.
  • Collect and record data related to cell growth, viability, and process performance.
  • Collaborate with process development and quality assurance teams to ensure consistent product quality.
  • Perform troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and corrective actions when upstream deviations occur.
  • Maintain cleanliness and documentation in production areas, supporting audits and inspection.
  • Ensure inventory of raw materials and consumables needed for upstream operations.
Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in biotechnology, biology, biochemistry, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a biomanufacturing or biotech production environment (preferably upstream).
  • Hands-on experience with mammalian or microbial cell culture.
  • Knowledge of bioprocessing software and data entry systems.
  • Experience in scale-up or pilot plant operations is a plus.
  • Familiarity with bioreactor operation and cell culture principles.
  • Ability to follow SOPs and work in a GMP-regulated environment.
  • Proficiency in using measurement instruments (e.g., pH meters, DO probes).
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
