Dillon’s Environmental Sciences team is looking for a Biologist to join our team in Saint John, New Brunswick, or Halifax, Nova Scotia. While this position primarily focuses on clients and projects in Atlantic Canada, it also offers the potential to work on interesting projects across Canada.

In this role, you will lead and conduct a variety of biophysical assessments supporting our clients in developing environmentally sustainable projects. You will help establish baseline environmental conditions and develop protection measures as the project evolves.

Responsibilities
What your day will look like
Technical Development
  • Manage and coordinate programs, projects, and technical studies for the natural environment component of various projects
  • Lead permitting and approvals activities at the local, provincial, and federal levels related to natural heritage (e.g., Endangered Species Act, Species at Risk Act, Conservation Authorities Act, Fisheries Act, Canadian Environmental Assessment Act)
  • Scope, plan, develop, and implement field programs
  • Provide oversight to project team members including natural scientists, technologists, and technical support staff
  • Coordinate multi-disciplinary projects
  • Support stakeholder and regulator engagement
  • Business travel upon request
Business Development
  • Prepare and support the preparation of project proposals and contribute to client relationships and business development activities
  • Liaise with public and private sector clients, government review and approval agencies, sub-consultants, and community representatives
  • Undertake travel as required
Learning & Development
  • Commitment to self-development and ongoing learning and professional growth
  • Mentor and support the career development of junior staff, including technical guidance, training, coaching, and mentoring
  • Contribute to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees
Qualifications
What you will need to succeed
  • An undergraduate degree in biology, ecology, or a related environmental sciences field
  • Proven professional experience in environmental consulting, including project management
  • Valid Driver’s License
Experience
  • 5+ years of related environmental sciences professional experience
  • Expertise in local, provincial, and federal environmental legislation, regulations, policies, and guidelines
  • Experience managing land development or EA projects, including multidisciplinary work
  • Experience preparing Environmental Impact Studies and supporting applications under the Planning Act and Environmental Reports for EA
  • Experience with regulatory applications and permit acquisition
  • Strong project management, client relationship, and business development skills
  • Experience engaging with stakeholders and communities, including Indigenous groups
  • Proficiency in proposal preparation and presentations
  • Excellent communication, critical thinking, organizational, and interpersonal skills
