Billing Specialist – Full time, Hillside Medical Clinic (Kelowna)

Evolve Allied Health has an opportunity for a positive, driven and organized individual to join our quickly growing team as a Medical Billing Specialist. We are a group of 40+ family physicians, working out of four locations in Lake Country and Kelowna, offering a combination of Family Practice, Women’s Health, Mental Health, Cosmetic, Internal Medicine, Sports Medicine, Dermatology and Walk-In services. We have a full-time position available in our billing department within our organization. As a member of our medical support team, you will be working alongside our amazing team of Medical office assistants, nurses and physicians in providing the best patient experience possible. Reporting to the billing manager, a medical billing specialist will work collaboratively with all staff and physicians in support of patient care. The billing specialist supports the organization by performing a variety of billing and administrative tasks.

Key responsibilities and aspects of the position may include, but are not limited to:

  1. Daily verification and submission of Medical Services Plan billings within our EMR systems for all providers in the organization.
  2. Reconciling and managing billing rejections or discrepancies.
  3. Assist providers and the organization in managing third-party claims, invoices and payments, including WorkSafe BC, ICBC, RCMP and medical-legal requests.
  4. Coordinate with providers to maximize billing opportunities.
  5. Maintain awareness of changes in billing codes and practices.
  6. Assist our accounting department in processing and maintaining payment data.
  7. Prepare reports needed by the Billing Manager, Accounting and Management teams.
  8. Various other duties as needed.

  11. Understanding the importance of appropriate and accurate documentation.
  12. Strong conflict management skills, empathy, and trustworthiness.
  13. Knowledge of Health Information Privacy Regulations.
  14. Commitment to ongoing professional development.

Qualifications:

  1. Grade 12 or equivalent.
  2. Accredited Medical Office Assistant (MOA) Certification required; relevant experience and education will be considered.
  3. A minimum of 1 to 2 years’ experience with Medical Services Plan and third-party billing practices would be an asset.
  4. Current Criminal Record Check within the last 6 months.
  5. Working knowledge of MedAccess, CHR and Oscar would be beneficial and an asset.
