Job Description:

The Sr. Manager of Building Engineering job description entails overseeing and handling various parts of Engineering / Design process, such as planning, directing, coordinating the activities of colleagues, choosing consultants, and monitoring performance. Reporting to the Director of Engineering.

Responsible for overseeing the development of engineering drawings for all new construction and major renovations in order to support the organizations capital plan in the Quebec and Atlantic Canada. Make key decisions to ensure that all projects are engineered consistently and adhere to company standards and are completed on time.

Some of the duties that may be executed by the colleague include spearheading the engineering of all new builds and major renovations projects. Which include and not limited to drawing coordination and review. Setting timelines and coordinating cost effective engineering drawings, and coordinating and directing consultants.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Actively promote a positive and productive work environment, aligned with our Blue Culture core values.
• Manage and develop relationships with consultants, vendors and contractors.
• Plan, Engineer and develop projects with the Real-Estate and Operations teams.
• Oversee the development of engineering drawings for all new construction and major renovations nationally supporting the execution of the organizations capital plan.
• Work with Planning, Legal, Real Estate, and Construction, and consultants to develop Schedule C (Landlord work schedules).
• Review and approve all plans and schedules submitted by landlords for accuracy in accordance with schedules (leaseholds).
• Work effectively and collaborate with Real-Estate/ Legal, Planning, construction, Design, Maintenance, Procurement and Operations teams.
• Manage and coordinate all activities related to Engineering, and Due Diligence.
• Conduct Coordination meetings with consultants ensuring consistency in design and adherence to standards.
• Participate on site visits, and in site meetings as required.
• Work with internal teams to develop, implement, and maintain National Models and Standards.
• Actively seek and incorporate new initiatives, standards into projects.
• Develop/ maintain Schedule C’s.
• Analyze, manage, and mitigate risks.
• Provide expertise to resolve construction/Engineering issues as and when required.
• Provide guidance on local code and regulation compliance requirements.
• Responsibility of evaluating and determining costs by preparing a budget, showing both soft and hard costs and coming up with ways to reduce budgets (value engineering).
• Coordinate and direct the following teams that will be reporting into the Director of Engineering:
  • Engineering
  • Site & Due Diligence

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 10+ years of construction experience, preferably in the commercial and Industrial spaces.
• 5+ years of people management and leadership experience.
• Degree/ diploma in Architecture or Engineering.
• Proven leadership skill in managing large teams and managing multiple project portfolios.
• Strong understanding of current workplace regulations, building codes, and legislation.
• Strong interpersonal skills, work efficiently and effectively with other professionals.
• Ability to drive and ensure accountability.
• Ability to work with cost functional teams /departments.
• Excellent communication skills oral and written in both English and French (bilingualism is mandatory).
• Strong passion for the construction industry and forward thinking/ innovative.
• Travel to stores pre/ post construction.

Parmi les tâches qui peuvent être exécutées par le collègue, mentionnons la direction de l’ingénierie de toutes les nouvelles constructions et de tous les projets de rénovation majeurs. RESPONSABILITÉS:

• Gérer et établir des relations avec les conseillers, les fournisseurs et les entrepreneurs.
• Planifier, concevoir et développer des projets avec les équipes de l’immobilier et de l’exploitation.
• Superviser l’élaboration de plans d’ingénierie pour toutes les nouvelles constructions et les rénovations majeures à l’échelle nationale en soutenant l’exécution du plan d’immobilisations de l’organisation.
• Collaborer avec la planification, les services juridiques, l’immobilier, la construction et les conseillers pour élaborer l’annexe C (horaires de travail du propriétaire).
• Passer en revue et approuver l’exactitude de tous les plans et les horaires soumis par les propriétaires conformément aux calendriers (améliorations locatives).
• Travailler efficacement et collaborer avec les équipes de l’immobilier/des services juridiques, de la planification, de la construction, de la conception, de l’entretien, de l’approvisionnement et de l’exploitation.
• Gérer et coordonner toutes les activités liées à l’ingénierie et à la diligence raisonnable.
• Tenir des réunions de coordination avec les conseillers pour assurer la cohérence de la conception et le respect des normes.
• Participer aux visites et aux réunions des sites, au besoin.
• Travailler avec les équipes internes pour élaborer, mettre en œuvre et maintenir des modèles et des normes nationaux.
• Rechercher et intégrer activement de nouvelles initiatives et normes dans les projets.
• Élaborer et tenir à jour l’annexe C.
• Analyser, gérer et atténuer les risques.
• Fournir de l’expertise pour résoudre les problèmes de construction ou d’ingénierie, au besoin.
• Fournir des conseils sur les exigences locales en matière de conformité au code et à la réglementation.
• Évaluer et déterminer les coûts en préparant un budget, en indiquant les coûts accessoires et les coûts de base et en déterminant des moyens de réduire les budgets (ingénierie de la valeur).
• Coordonner et diriger les équipes suivantes qui relèveront du directeur de l’ingénierie:
  • Ingénierie
  • Site et diligence raisonnable

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Plus de 10ans d’expérience en construction, de préférence dans les espaces commerciaux et industriels.
• Au moins 5ans d’expérience en gestion du personnel et en leadership.
• Diplôme en architecture ou en ingénierie.
• Compétences éprouvées en leadership pour gérer de grandes équipes et plusieurs portefeuilles de projets.
• Excellente compréhension des règlements actuels en milieu de travail, des codes du bâtiment et de la législation.
• Aptitudes marquées pour les communications interpersonnelles et capacité de travailler efficacement avec d’autres professionnels.
• Capacité de stimuler et d’assurer la responsabilisation.
• Capacité à travailler avec les équipes et les services de coûts fonctionnels.
• Excellentes aptitudes en communication orale et écrite en anglais et en français (bilinguisme obligatoire).
• Forte passion pour l’industrie de la construction et pensée avant-gardiste et novatrice.
• Se rendre aux magasins avant et après la construction.
