Position: Residential Mortgage Underwriter, Specialized Credit

This role involves negotiating, recommending, declining, and sometimes approving mortgage applications secured by real estate, within established guidelines. You will serve as the primary contact for clients referred from various sources, using your extensive knowledge of our mortgage products and credit expertise to educate, negotiate, and process applications efficiently and prudently, ensuring excellent service and profitability.

The Work:

  1. Provide exceptional service to existing borrowers and direct client inquiries via multiple communication channels, maintaining broad knowledge of mortgage products and the mortgage lifecycle.
  2. Respond to inquiries, review applications and supporting documents, negotiate terms, and make recommendations or approvals, ensuring timely processing and adherence to guidelines. (40%)
  3. Ensure smooth closing of approved deals and proper handling of cancellations, following up with clients to verify documentation and compliance. (40%)
  4. Maintain high levels of customer service, provide underwriting expertise, and stay updated on policies, procedures, and products. (20%)

About You:

  • Strong multitasking and organizational skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and communication skills
  • Knowledge of AML & ATF practices and fraud risk in mortgage lending
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a high-volume environment
  • Minimum of 2 years’ mortgage experience in prime and/or alternative markets
  • Proficiency in MS Office, especially Word and Excel
  • Post-secondary degree in a related field preferred
