Salary : $28 CAD / hr and mileage reimbursement per investigation plus recovery commission

Position : Bilingual Field Claims Investigator / Claim Recovery Agent

Location : Hybrid (75% remote, 25% fieldwork)

Compensation : $28 CAD / hr and mileage reimbursement ($.72 CAD per km for first 5,000 km, $.66 CAD per km thereafter) per investigation plus commission based on successful recovery of claims (estimated annual commission of $80,000 CAD)

COMPANY OVERVIEW

Phoenix Loss Control (Phoenix or PLC) is a U.S.-based business services provider in the cable, telecom, and utilities sector. PLC specializes in outside plant damage investigation, recovery, and prevention. We assist our clients in recovering costs related to third-party damages to their infrastructure, such as underground fiber optic or gas lines. PLC employs over 120 people, servicing some of the largest cable and telecom operators across the country (including Comcast, Spectrum, AT&T, and Google). Phoenix is expanding rapidly and seeks talented, energetic individuals to join our team and support our growth.

POSITION SUMMARY

Outside Plant Damage (OPD) costs our clients over 30 million USD / 43 million CAD annually. The role involves conducting field investigations to assess, document, and report damages. Each investigation is unique, requiring inquisitive, self-driven individuals comfortable working in a dynamic environment. Responsibilities also include reviewing damage information, identifying liable parties, invoicing, and pursuing recovery of repair costs. Bilingual proficiency in French and English is required for effective communication.

  • Conduct on-site field investigations
  • Write detailed, concise investigation reports utilizing various sources of information, evidence, witness statements, and cost estimates
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of local and state laws and regulations pertaining to underground and aerial cables and utility lines
  • Respond promptly to damage calls within a timely manner
  • Complete damage investigations within 7 days and collaborate with claims managers to finalize and initiate recovery processes
  • Respond to damage reports on the same day during business hours; respond the following day if received after hours
  • Accurately document all time, mileage, and related details

Claim Recovery Duties

  • Review claim details, identify liable parties, and facilitate claims resolution
  • Gather cost data and prepare invoices for clients
  • Communicate with liable parties and insurance carriers both verbally and in writing
  • Negotiate settlements and resolve conflicts
  • Escalate urgent issues as necessary

  • Reliable internet access, a dedicated phone line, and a smartphone for investigations
  • Valid driver’s license, current insurance, reliable vehicle, and ability to respond to damages at any time
  • Safety gear including vest, work boots, and hard hat
  • Bilingual in French and English

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience in telecommunications, utilities, or billing
  • Knowledge of underground utility locating procedures
  • Experience in investigation, inspection, or claims/field adjusting
  • Background in criminal justice, legal, or military training
  • Remote work location as determined by management
