Position : Bilingual Field Claims Investigator / Recovery Agent

Location : Hybrid (75% remote, 25% fieldwork)

Compensation : $28 CAD / hr and mileage reimbursement ($.72 CAD per km for first 5,000 km, $.66 CAD each additional km) per investigation plus commission based on successful recovery of claims (EST commission $80,000 CAD / yr)

COMPANY OVERVIEW

Phoenix Loss Control (“Phoenix” or“PLC”) is a U.S.-based business services provider in the cable, telecom, and utilities sector. PLC’s core service is outside plant damage investigation, recovery, and prevention. We help our clients recover the costs of third-party damage to their infrastructure, such as underground fiber optic or gas lines. PLC currently employs over 120 people, servicing some of the largest cable and telecom operators across the country (e.g., Comcast, Spectrum, AT&T, Google). Phoenix is expanding rapidly and seeks talented, energetic individuals to join our team and support our growth.

POSITION SUMMARY

Outside Plant Damage (OPD) costs our clients over 30 million USD / 43 million CAD annually. Field investigation involves collecting, assessing, and reporting damages. Each investigation is unique. We seek inquisitive, self-driven individuals comfortable working in a dynamic environment. Claim recovery involves reviewing damage information, identifying liable parties, invoicing responsible parties, and pursuing recovery of costs. Bilingual in French and English is required for effective communication.

  • Conduct on-site field investigations
  • Write detailed, concise investigation reports using various sources, evidence, witness statements, and cost estimates
  • Maintain knowledge of local and state statutes, laws, and regulations related to underground and aerial cables and utility service lines
  • Respond promptly to damage calls within a timely manner
  • Complete damage investigations within 7 days and collaborate with claims managers to finalize recovery
  • Respond to damages on the same day if received during business hours; otherwise, respond the following day
  • Accurately record all time, mileage, and related details

Claim Recovery Duties

  • Review claim information, identify liable parties, and take steps toward resolution
  • Gather costs and prepare invoices for clients
  • Communicate with liable parties and insurance carriers verbally and in writing
  • Negotiate settlements
  • Resolve conflicts and escalate urgent issues as needed

  • Valid driver’s license, current insurance, and reliable vehicle for responding to damages
  • Safety gear including vest, boots, and hard hat
  • Bilingual in French and English required

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience in telecommunications, utilities, or billing
  • Knowledge of underground utility locating procedures and systems
  • Experience in investigation, inspection, or claims / field adjusting
  • Background in criminal justice, legal, or military training

This is an independent contractor position. Benefits are not provided.
