Job description

We are seeking a Bilingual Disability Case Manager (6 Month Term) to join our Coughlin team in Ottawa, Toronto, or Winnipeg, though we are flexible on location.

If you are bilingual (French and English) and an experienced Disability Management professional or have a keen interest in health, wellness, and disability management, plus enjoy working in a team environment, we encourage you to apply. The Bilingual Disability Case Manager is required to process short-term disability claims for payment by applying established policies and procedures. They will also provide administrative support to clients, members, and insurers to allow effective and prompt processing of all disability claims. In addition, the Bilingual Disability Case Manager will be a direct liaison with Trustees, employers, and members to provide information regarding procedures and claim status to the plan consultants and other company staff as needed.

The Bilingual Disability Case Manager (6 Month Term) will:
  • Review disability claims to determine fitness for work and ongoing eligibility and entitlement to benefits based on medical documentation, functional abilities, job demands, and contractual provisions.
  • In collaboration with the client and treatment providers, develop and implement case management plans focused on recovery and timely return to work.
  • Conduct regular assessments to understand the client’s ongoing functional abilities, recovery, and treatment needs.
  • Determine work-readiness and develop suitable RTW programs.
  • Identify barriers impacting recovery or RTW and coordinate expedited health care or rehabilitation services.
  • Manage cases until return to work or claim resolution.
To be successful as the Bilingual Disability Case Manager (6 Month Term) with Coughlin & Associates, you will need:
  • Completion of a Bachelor’s degree or diploma in a health-related field or disability management.
  • 3+ years experience in disability claims adjudication or case management.
  • Full fluency in French and English.
  • A high degree of confidentiality as you will have access to a moderate range of confidential information.
  • Strong judgement and critical thinking skills - able to exercise judgement in various situations and ensure work is completed in a timely and accurate fashion in order to meet deadlines.
  • Accuracy and Precision - an ability to detect errors before they have negative impact.
  • Communication skills - responding to clients, members or other external contacts, preparing correspondence, assisting with appeals, etc.
  • Strong assessment and decision-making skills.
  • Strong understanding of medical and mental health conditions and treatments.
  • To effectively manage and resolve conflict.
