Sheridan's Parking & Sustainable Transportation is hiring a skilled and customer-focused mechanic to support the Bike Hub(s) at the Davis and HMC campuses. This role is essential in maintaining the campus bike fleet, performing repairs, leading workshops, training volunteers, and managing daily operations.

The ideal candidate brings strong mechanical expertise, exceptional customer service, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Proficiency in MS Office, particularly in Excel, strong organizational skills, and problem-solving abilities are key. Previous experience in retail, customer service, or a bike shop is a plus. This position plays a vital role in advancing Sheridan’s commitment to sustainable transportation and fostering an active campus community.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Customer Service and Sales;
    • Greeting and assisting visitors with professionalism and enthusiasm;
    • Explaining and guiding new users to register for rentals or fill out the proper documents to use the services;
    • Providing detailed explanations of repair needs and cost estimates;
    • Educating customers on bike maintenance best practices and cycling safety;
  • Bike Repairs and Maintenance;
    • Assessing and diagnosing mechanical issues on customer bicycles;
    • Providing repair guidance and hands-on demonstrations to users;
    • Performing regular maintenance on the Bike Hub inventory to ensure functionality and safety;
    • Maintaining an inventory of spare parts and tools for efficient repairs;
  • Shop Operations;
    • Keeping the workspace clean, organized, and stocked with essential tools and supplies;
    • Tracking and maintaining shop performance metrics, including repairs completed and customer engagement;
    • Ensuring compliance with workplace safety protocols and hazard management;
  • Workshops and Outreach;
    • Leading and assisting in bike repair and maintenance workshops for students and staff;
    • Supporting pop-up repair events, outreach tents, and cycling advocacy initiatives;
  • Volunteer and Program Support;
    • Training and mentoring volunteers to enhance repair skills and customer service
  • Performing other related duties as required.

The Successful Candidate Will Also Meet The Following Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma;
  • At least 1 year of experience in retail, customer service, or workshop setting;
    • Experience with community engagement, outreach, or workshop facilitation;
  • Strong bike mechanic skills, including diagnosing and repairing common issues;
    • Ability to train and support individuals of all skill levels in bike repair;
  • Proficiency in using computer programs e.g., Microsoft Excel, Office 365 (SharePoint, Bookings, Forms, OneNote);
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills;
  • Experience in a bike shop, either as a staff member or a volunteer would be considered an asset;
    • Previous experience leading workshops or group rides;
    • Knowledge of cycling culture and sustainable transportation advocacy;
    • Experience with social media or digital communication.

Application Details: This is a temporary position that may continue until December 19, 2025. This position is contingent upon continued funding from the Region of Peel and may be extended to the following year, subject to the availability of funds.
