Berean Baptist Church - Canada (Sudbury, ON) – Pastor

The Big Picture

Berean Baptist Church (bereansudbury.ca) is seeking a Pastor who will preach the Word of God, equip the Saints for works of service, and reach the lost for the glory of God.

The Church

Berean Baptist Church is located in downtown Sudbury, Ontario, about 4 hours north of Toronto. The city is centered on mining, and is a university and hospital center for Northeastern Ontario, with a population of about 160,000. As “Bereans” (Acts 17:11), we value strong Bible preaching and teaching, and are eager to reach out with the Gospel in our area. We purchased and renovated a new building in a more residential neighborhood over six years ago. We are committed to sharing the good news with those affected by social issues in the downtown core.

Our beliefs and practices are based on our statement of faith, emphasizing:

• The Bible as our rule of faith and practice, inspired, inerrant, and infallible
• Justification as a forensic act of God, based on the merit of Christ, rejecting the “new perspective”
• Belief in doctrines of sovereign grace and election for salvation
• A literal 6-day creation
• “Last things” aligned with amillennial views
• Participation in the Lord’s Table following believers’ baptism by immersion, for those walking with the Lord

Requirements

The Candidate

1. Preach and teach at scheduled services
2. Engage in outreach activities, including children’s, youth, adult, and senior ministries; participation in a television outreach, Focus on the Bible, is supported but optional
3. Serve as the chair for church business meetings, with flexibility to delegate
4. Assist with administrative tasks and church office duties as needed, with willingness to help
5. Aim to inspire and equip others for service, following Ephesians 4:11-16

Expectations regarding character and family

The role requires godly character, as outlined in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1. Support from the pastor’s family is essential; the pastor’s wife should be a church member, attend services, and participate in church life as gifts and time permit. Police checks will be required due to youth involvement, and growth in the fruit of the Spirit is highly valued.
