Job Summary

The Recreation Therapist holds a leadership position at Park Place Home, responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring programs that meet the physical, social, emotional, spiritual, and intellectual needs of residents. They oversee department administration and programming, ensuring a commitment to resident safety and fostering a 'culture of safety' aligned with the Strategic Directions of Park Place Seniors Living.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities
  • Administration: Collaborate in planning, implementing, and evaluating Recreation Therapy programs; oversee the department; participate in meetings and site committees.
  • Resident Programs: Plan, prepare, and evaluate recreation programs; supervise Recreation Aides; maintain resident progress records; communicate with team members; ensure residents participate in activities aligned with their treatment plans; lead and motivate residents in leisure pursuits; ensure safety during off-site activities; attend educational sessions; perform other duties as required.
  • Community Relations: Develop community-based programs; maintain contact with community agencies; represent Park Place Home on committees and professional associations.
  • Documentation: Coordinate MDS data entry; manage care plans and progress notes; record accurate data per charting protocols.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Degree or Diploma in Recreation Therapy from an accredited institution
  • Valid First Aid/CPR certification; minimum two years related experience preferred
  • Class 4 Driver's License (preferred)
  • Experience in coordinating recreation programs
  • Understanding of long-term care residents' characteristics
  • Experience working with volunteers and in program organization/public relations (preferred)
  • Other relevant equivalences may be considered
