Job description

Come and be a part of the City of Edmonton's Employee Service Centre (ESC) dynamic team! As a Benefits Representative, you'll be responsible for efficient benefits functions supporting over 14,000 City employees across 8 departments.

Working with a team of professionals, you will provide efficient solutions and services to the organization, focusing on accuracy, timeliness, and exceptional customer service in a fast-paced environment. Your day could include:

  1. Processing and auditing new hires and benefits administration for union and non-union employees
  2. Processing and verifying employee benefit changes and deductions; administering employee leave plans
  3. Processing and ensuring the accuracy of pay and benefits documents for onboarding and transfers
  4. Providing interpretation regarding collective agreements, policies, and legislative changes
  5. Providing benefits information in accordance with agreements, third-party processes, and legislation
  6. Creating, maintaining, and inactivating positions in the HRIS
  7. Processing organizational structure and cost centre changes
  8. Researching, problem-solving, and responding to pay and benefit inquiries via phone, email, or chat
  9. Participating in HRIS projects and testing as required

Qualifications:

  1. Completion of the 12th grade
  2. Designation as a Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) or a certificate in benefits or HR administration
  3. Minimum three years of experience in benefits and employee transaction administration in a large environment

Assets:

  • Experience with payroll system upgrades

Skills required for success:

  • Experience with PeopleSoft and SAP SuccessFactors or similar HRIS software
  • Experience interpreting and applying collective agreements
  • Strong customer service and problem-solving skills, ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Active team player
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Docs, Sheets, Gmail, and organization charting software
  • Alignment with our Diversity and Inclusion Framework, Cultural Commitments, and Leadership Competencies
  • Applicants may be tested

Conditions of Employment:

  • Dependence on a Police Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton

Work Environment:

  • This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement
  • Work hours are currently under review and subject to change
  • Eligible for the Earned Day Off (EDO) program
