Position Overview:
The Behaviour Outreach Facilitator’s primary role is to facilitate Calgary Humane Society’s educational, training, and community outreach programs. These programs aim to build community awareness around positive reinforcement training methods, animal behaviour concerns, and responsible pet ownership while fostering empathy and compassion for the animals in our community.
Responsibilities:
- Implement post-adoption support programs including behaviour resources for all species and engagement strategies to connect adopters with Calgary Humane Society.
- Develop and coordinate animal behaviour training classes, including scheduling, booking consultations, managing registrations, and ensuring effective staffing and promotion.
- Collaborate with the Manager of Behaviour to monitor revenue goals and develop trainer accreditation programs.
- Support community outreach by participating in behaviour rounds, assisting with class activities, and managing the behaviour helpline and private consultations.
- Promote programs at community events and build partnerships with trainers and facilities.
- Maintain and update behaviour handouts and assist in planning post-adoption support.
- Evaluate animal intake and proactively contact clients for behaviour support to prevent intake or facilitate retention.
- Represent CHS positively within the community and uphold its values of Compassion, Commitment, Collaboration, and Courage.
- Engage volunteers and support the Animal Care team as needed.
Qualifications:
- Completion of or working toward a professional training certification (e.g., KPA, CPDT, IAABC, Pet Professional Guild) is an asset.
- Flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Intermediate knowledge of animal behaviour and experience in animal welfare, dog daycare, or public relations is preferred.
- Willingness to pursue further professional development in feline/canine behaviour.
- Excellent communication, customer service, and public speaking skills.
- Strong administrative skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Effective time management and ability to handle multiple priorities under pressure.
- Interpersonal skills to work with diverse individuals.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license with 3+ years driving experience and a clean abstract.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to handle various species and lift up to 40 lbs.
- Capability to perform repetitive motions and physical activities related to animal handling and training.
