Job summary

Monarch House is seeking a Behaviour Interventionist to implement programs designed by a senior clinical team for children and youth with autism spectrum needs. You will work in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary setting to support skill development and reduce challenging behaviours in a 1:1 or small group context.

Evening sessions 3PM-7PM are required; work is community-based across Calgary and surrounding areas.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years experience with children/youth with complex needs or developmental disabilities.
  • Pursuing or completed studies in psychology, speech, OT or kinesiology.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (within 6 months).
  • Strong English verbal and written communication; valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Implement programs designed by the clinical team to support skill acquisition and reduce maladaptive behaviours.
  • Use behavioural strategies to promote positive client engagement in 1:1 or small groups.
  • Maintain safety, follow clinical protocols, and adapt to changing conditions.
  • Assist with personal care tasks and create a supportive, engaging environment.

Job description

As aBehaviour Interventionist (BI)at Monarch House your primary responsibility is implementing programs designed and supervised by a senior clinical team (of speech pathologists, by a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst® BCBAs, Occupational therapists and physical therapists) to clients receiving services from Monarch House. You will work within an interdisciplinary team to support skill acquisition and/or decrease maladaptive behaviors while providing an engaging and positive client experience in a fast paced and frequently changing environment.

Please note that we do not offer LMIA or independent contractor setup
Work setup: Community-based in Calgary (NW / NE / SE / SW / Chestermere / Airdrie)
Salary:starting at $23.5 - 25 per hour

Work schedule: Monday - Saturday. Evening sessions between 3PM-7PM is required.

  • Responsible for implementing programs based on best practices.
  • Uses systematic methods and behavioural strategies to support client in changing their behaviour
  • Contributes to the development of programs established by the clinical team to teach and reinforce a variety of skills for children and youth in a 1:1 and/or small group setting
  • Understand the functions of behavior and responds appropriately and safely when situations arise
  • Adhere to all clinical training, procedures, and protocols
  • Ability to adapt to changing conditions and/or routine and provide creative solutions
  • Responsible for creating a positive and engaging environment for the client
  • Support clients with personal care tasks such as dressing, toileting, and eating
  • Responsible for maintaining the well-being and safety
Here is what you will need to be successful
  • 1-2 years experience working with children and youth with complex needs and/or developmental disabilities
  • Pursuing or completed education in Psychology, Speech or linguistics, occupational therapy or kinesiology.
  • Education and demonstrated ability in ethical and professional practice
  • Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening within the last 6 months
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills
  • A valid driver's license (Class 5)and reliable vehicle for daily use
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum 1 year experience working in client homes is a plus
  • Enrollment in or degree from a post-secondary program of Psychology, Educational Psychology, Special Education or another related field is an asset
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder specific coursework, training or workshops an asset
  • Experience working with clients who have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder or other developmental disabilities
