The Program
This position supports behavioural intervention programs within the Grande Prairie and surrounding communities in Alberta. Integrative Behaviour Support Services (IBSS) provides behavioral and educational support for caregivers who work with individuals who struggle with complex behaviours. This program is founded on the principles of Positive Behavioural Supports (PBS), Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), and developmental theory; We use a Biopsychosocial-Cultural framework along with strengths-based and trauma informed approaches to increase quality of life and decrease risk.
The Position
As the Behaviour Consultant you will complete functional behavioural assessments, design and write behaviour support plans, and provide consultation and training for caregivers, families, service providers and community groups. In this consultative role, you will work within a virtual team setting, without direct supervision. Strong technical, organizational, time management, interpersonal communication and collaboration skills will ensure success in the role. This position reports to the Program Director.
This is a hybrid-based position, that does require 50% of scheduled time to be allotted for case management and administrative tasks. These tasks are to be completed from your home-based office within the area of Grande Prairie, AB.
Weekly Schedule
One (1) permanent, full-time position, with a weekly schedule of 37.5 hours.
- Monday through Friday, 0830-1630
- Flexibility is required to meet caseload demands.
- Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends is required.
Travel Requirements
- 50% of the incumbent's scheduled time will require travel
- Travel to/within the consultation area (North West region) is required
- Related travel expenses will be reimbursed.
In Your Role You Will
- Complete on site observations and assessments
- Model and test behavioural approaches through demonstration, supported practice and encouragement of independent use of behavioural interventions, in the home or community, using an 'I do, we do, you do approach'
- Complete functional assessments and develop behaviour support plans.
- Develop and deliver training for caregivers in behavioural intervention approaches and procedures (i.e. proactive behaviour strategies, restrictive procedures, trauma informed approaches, specific behavioural techniques, etc.)
- Provide incident evaluation, response and debriefing supports
- Adhere to Positive Behavior Supports (PBS) best practices, CET accreditation standards, and evidence-based practices
- Represent Taproot at community meetings, conferences, and professional gatherings.
- Attend, participate and contribute to team meetings

As An Ideal Candidate You Possess
- Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Disability Studies, Behavioural Science, Special Needs or related field.
- Experience with Positive Behaviour Supports (PBS)/Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA), completing Comprehensive Functional Assessments, creating, writing and using Positive Behavioural Support Plans, and experience with persons experiencing behavioural, social and emotional disorders.
- Ability to travel 50% of your work schedule, to/within the consultation area
- Class 5 driver license, suitable driver abstract and reliable vehicle
- Ability to adapt to changing conditions and/or routine and provide creative solutions
- Strong personal commitment to working with persons with developmental disabilities, dual diagnosis, acquired brain injury, FASD and challenging behaviours.
- Group facilitation/training/teaching skills a must
- Positive Behaviour Supports (PBS) or Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) is an asset.
